Other Cheaper Mods

So I have full bolt ons w/ cams and injectors…..stock block, stock turbo. My plan is to buy rods then pistons then gradually save up for the install of them. However are there any other "cheaper" mods I can do while saving up for a built block and turbo? Was looking at throttle body or P&P intake manifold. I'm assuming w/ a bigger throttle body I'd need a retune as well….Any ideas or should I just leave it alone and save for the built block and thats it then a turbo? I don't want to go turbo before building the bottom end for reliability reasons.

Save for the built block.. not only is it insurance, but you know you're going to do it anyway. Of coarse you could get away with doing a turbo upgrade now but again... insurance.

I've been wondering about how much power the stock block can withstand on the safe side before upgrading the internals of it. I am planning on doing a ef3 upgrade with cams but just want to make sure.

A lot of guys are saying 400wtq is the maximum, but some guys have busted their engines around 380-390wtq. It's all in the tune I'd assume.

And how it's driven, when it's driven, and what sounds, gauge readings and feelings the driver is paying attention to.

Take the best tune and let someone grab 5th gear at low speeds and boost the engine and watch it pop. Driver mod can make the worst tuner look great and tarnish the finest tune.

Save for the built block and plan on sleeving it.
While your saving there's plenty of "cheaper" mods you can do along the way. I would definitely look into upgrading the CMC with AMS, SSP, or Magnus prior to or along with your build. Upgraded brake pads, sway bars, endlinks, shifter bushings, short shifter or you could add some show parts.

Driver mod is key as you said.

I agree ! Especially the short shifter and bushings. It will make shifting a whole lot better experience especially if you have the infamous notchy gear problem. I just ordered short shifter with base bushing for 130. pretty cheap if you ask me.

Thanks for the very informative post, it has not answered my question in the slightest. Since you possess the knowledge of the ancients, please enlighten us to how "3k = NO Bueno!" works.

You do realize that 5th gear on an Evo X at 3k RPMs is about 70mph?

Seemed pretty clear to me. But we won't ruin it by just telling you. Here, instead, is another hint: it would be even more no bueno if you were going up a hill.
