Wanting a Evo X and questions on warranty with used one
Hey guys, Test drove a 2012 MR the other day and fell in love with it.
Price tag was $38,724 (down from $41,160 due to a cross out the dealer had on it) and honestly the payments are just a tad too high since the taxes, title and tags are around $2200 additional. Not sure what the bottom dollar you could talk a stealership down on the MR is.
Question is, Is it even worth buying a used MR beings the warranty from the factory is only 5 year/60k miles? If i bought a used one i would want a 2010 at the oldest so it's got some warranty left but i'm not sure if it would be worth it vs just paying for a brand new one cause i thought there was a different warranty when a second owner bought a new Evo.
I have $15,000 to put down but that doesn't dent a new car payment at all hardly it seems. I have excellent credit so a low interest rate should be no problem.
I really don't want a GSR as i like the SST the MR has and the overall suspension, wheels and interior is a tad nicer. It's amazing how some people are affording these cars though, I mean your looking at around $600/mo give or take with insurance and that's with 15k down and a clean driving record. Guess it depends on if you live at home or not still which i do not.
Any ideas on the best route to go?

I'm not sure why you figure 600$ monthly payments. I had around 15000 down as well as you do. I took a 6 year loan and my payments are only 400 monthly. And that's not even with a great Apr %. You may want to just try a longer term.
Just checked them out, They have a new 2011 MR.
I'll give them a call tomorrow, I blue booked a 2011 MR and it should go for around $35,500
What type of deal did you get vs the sticker price?
Thanks!

$600 payments included insurance ($178 for the MR)
The Evo's have a 3 year 36k mile bumper to bumper and 5 year 60k power train. If you are new to mitsu you will learn to hope you never have to deal with their warranty coverage anyways. New or used they still like to deny coverage the same

I haven't heard of any catastrophic failures of the SST on stock or bolt-on cars. Correct me if I'm wrong but I think the tranny on the MR is a work of engineering genius. Name another automatic with which you can have more fun. Probably GTR.
If you're worried about $600/month including insurance, you may want to reconsider the purchase all together, unless you can budget another $50-100/month in maintenance (excluding fuel). Granted maintenance won't be a monthly expense, but if you're on a budget you need to factor in the cost of new tires, brakes (rotors, pads, fluid), oil changes, transmission and diff fluid changes, AYC&ASC fluid changes. And don't forget about things like tint and clear bra depending on your wants/needs.
Thanks everyone, I think im going to hold off on a evo x for now. Way too expensive IMO and the dealers are not budging much at all. Talked to about 4 dealers and all go down maybe $2000 and that is it. Plus the warranty deals don't seem that good if there ever is a real problem from what i been reading.
Not sure how you guys are affording or if you are affording these cars but hats off to you with all the crazy expenses it seems.
Maybe it's cause i am living on my own and have other bills and don't want to be strapped if i got a evo cause of the car payment.

Not including food or other side expenses...I pay about $3000 a month. And thats living in a low standard of living state/city that I do. When I look at all my bills $500 to $600 dollars doesnt look so bad.
Overall many dealerships dont bargain to much on the Evo. A few however will. Mitsu doesnt offer rebates to often either. With 2013 being the last year, you might see even less deals as the next year approaches.
