QUICK HELP ! ! Is this a fair price?
I'm in talks with a dealership for the following car.
2008 Lancer Evolution X MR
47,000 miles
$25,000 + (tax) = est. $26,701 out the door
Pics online look good and dealer TOLD me its completely stock. Still looking at if they can take it to Mitsubishi dealership so I can get it looked over and dealer can tell me EXACTLY what shape its in.
If car turns out to be in good shape, do you think this is a good price. KBB, Edmonds, and NADA all have this car listed at: $22,833 - 26000 TRADE-IN value. Dealership Pricing is between $26,040 - $30,674.
ANY help you can give would greatly be appreciated.
Thank You,
Lando Commando

What would YOU pay for an Evo X MR with that mileage? When I looked online (Cars.com, auto trader, yahoo autos, etc) all those cars that are the same year (2008) and around the same mileage (31,000 miles to 50,000 miles) are going for $26,500 - $28,000. This car was listed for $29,000 and got them down to $25,000. What SHOULD I have offered them?
I'm going to get pics sent and have the car sent to dealership or other mechanic to see if its in good shape.
What i WOULD pay for THAT car is about what YOU would pay for IT. lol..
I remember Costa Mesa Mitsubishi selling their new base evo X's for about 28k.. Seeing how its an MR, 25k doesnt seem too bad. I'd say go for it.

Based on the online appraisal sites, I would basically be paying (base price) what most dealerships are offering for a trade-in. Dealers will always markup their cars (otherwise they would go under) so getting close to trade-in value and then paying taxes doesn't seem so bad to me. Maybe they got this car at auction and only paid 15K, 17K, or even 20K and are still making a nice profit off of it.
It's pretty hard to give a recommendation based on just miles, model, and price.
How is the condition of the tires? If old consider another 1k on top of the price.
What is the service history? Are you looking at a major service? That's SST fluid + oil, could be another 500-1000 depending on what needs to be done.
Used MR with 50k miles, how does the transmission shift? If that goes it's a 10k or more repair job.
Did it spend it's life stock or did someone take it back to stock recently? Really depends how it runs.

No need to be hostile Evostare. lol. Sorry if that offended the poster who replied. Wasn't trying to be a jerk. I just need some feedback on the car and if someone doesn't think its a good deal, some info on why would definately help.

Did you not read my "go for it" at the end? Anyways, not sure what your waiting for.. someones going to take it away from you if you don't hurry.
Lol, Very funny. I will find out more Wednesday about the car but I feel the deal may already be falling thru. I'm in Phx, AZ so I have no way of seeing firsthand what shape the car is in. I was going to pay to have them take it to the local Mitsubishi dealership and I was going to pay for dealership to go over car looking for issues specific to Evos and/or MRs. If the inspection came back good, then I would fly out, test drive it, and buy it. Not sure but I would assume the inspection at the dealership would be pretty detailed and they would check lots of things (tire, brakes, brake pads, turbo, TC-SST, if possible, etc) and let me know. Is this a fair assumption?
Only prob now is that I offered $25,000 for the car. Dealer called me back and said $25,995 + fees. When i asked the dealership "What fees and how much?" they said, "We'll call you back with detailed list but it will probably run around $2,500 or 10% of the price of the car" I was literally too in shock to respind. They said they would call me back Wed morning to finalize everything, get a deposit over the phone to take to dealership and take car off of the lot. Most likely come Wed, I'll be looking for another Evo. Oh well. Initial price of car was around $28,900. They went as low at 26,900. I told them I'll give them $25,000 and they come back with $25,995 + fees ($2500) = $28,495 which is ONLY $495 off of original price. lol.

BTW, those "fees" were not including taxes.
If u have $25k cash or verified personal or cahier's check, they will bend over backwards for u. I know this coz I've done it before and I've worked at a dealership before. If not, go to another dealership.
Well, I can understand some fees like a documentation fee of $100 or so, but no fees should add up to $2,500. I'm going to have to pay tax one way or another. Either I pay CA sales tax and pay a little extra or be refunded some $$$ when I register the car in AZ or I pay AZ sales tax up front. Either way Uncle Sam will get his cut, unless I'm missing something.
I do think things would go different if I lived out in CA. I could then do what some posters have said. Go in and say, I want this Evo X and this is what I'm willing to pay. You got 5 mins to get it approved by your mgr or I'm walking. My brother did that with his Jeep and my buddy did that with his Escalade.
I understand dealerships want/need to make a profit but I just hate the bullsh*t.
I've contacted a few Mitsubishi dealerships in the CA area and am on the list for certain Evos. Hopefully I'll have one soon.
I wish I had that luxury. My current car is a 01 Hyundai Sante Fe with 130,000 miles on it. I already have a friend wanting to buy it for his son in November (thats the time I HAVE to find a car if not earlier) so my trade-in on that would be sh*t. Even if I started putting away $200/month once my Sante Fe was paid off (2006), I would only still have about $14K to put down instead of the $6K I have now. I hand it to you guys who can pay cash for a car.
$6K isn't all the $$$ in my personal account but what I have in my "Evo Fund" I would prefer to have about $1,500+ left over after purchase, registration, taxes, etc to start my "Evo Maintenance Fund" cause I know those things are pricey to fix.
