Does/did your new Evo smell?
Does/did your new Evo smell?
I have a 2012 MR with about 1200 kms on the clock. I notice a very strong "hot" smell maybe even like brake pad smell or clutch smell. I know it gets really hot under the hood and there is usually some burning off of manufacturing oils and what not but I figured it should be all gone by now. I notice it when stopped or parked, not so much while driving. Did this happen to anyone with there new Evo? Thanks in advanced.

I noticed mine had a burning hair mixed with chemical kind of smell a couple of times lately. Almost smells like someone dying their hair. I'm not sure why it made that smell? Hope everything is ok. 3k miles
The first day of driving my 2012 smelled like something was burning. Granted I learned to drive manual on it
My car still has the new car smell though, and I love it even though it's bad for you

All three Evo's I've owned have smelled when hot. Especially when driven hard or even just driven on the freeway at higher speeds. I think it's just part of driving a turbo charged econobox.
Thanks all, I figured it must be as all of you have suggested, just wanted to make sure. The first night I took it home the whole house smelled of gas. I went nuts looking for a leak but by morning it was a lot better.

Since you have a turbo engine it gets very hot and when a car is new it has many different assembly lubes/oils in pleases which get hot, even the exhaust system with the cat converter. After some time and mileage the smell will fade but will always have similar smell.
haha I hope so, you've got a beast of a car.
As far as smells, if you learned how to drive stick shift then your clutch it burning and will need to be replaced sooner then you think haha. If you push your car hard, then it's going to get hot and going to smell, specially since your turbo is right next to your firewall and it's prolly the burning from your firewall/heat sheild and exhaust that's making that smell. As long as you don't see flames/smoke you'll be fine
