Total Noob Questions?

So I have about 1400mi on my car and is it suppose to run like poo when it's cold? Just seems really rough.

Also do these things idle once warm at a certain rpm, or do they have a hunting idle that jumps back and forth 300 rpm?

Another thing when you first start your car have you ever heard a kinda whine like a stuck bearing or something for a second just as the car starts? It's not the old hold the starter on to long welding it sound, it's way diffrent.

Also has any one ever had there car when cold and are driving down the road about 20mph that feels like it has a flatspot in one of the rear tires, and shakes and once the car gets warm and about 6 miles down the road it smooths out??

Thanks for any input as I'm still trying to read through all the post on here.

Something that drives a lot smoother when cold. Seriously feels like there is a flat spot in the tire or the drivetrain is hanging up lumpty lump untill it gets warm.

I've never noticed anything like that. I generally warm mine up a couple minutes. MR or GSR?

I have a GSR and I usually let mine warm up. I haven't noticed any noise when starting the car. When the car was stock I noticed the idle jumping a bit, but I haven't looked at it since I got a TBE installed a few days ago.

Something doesn't sound right. Take it in and have it looked at. My car never did anything like you mentioned.

As for your idle, assuming your car is stock, when you do a cold start it's supposed to idle a little high, then drop when warmed up. You should only experience a bouncy idle after you mod the car, depending on what what mods you do to it.

Also, considering it's summertime, how cold can it really be. Wait until winter...

Get it checked out ASAP. Post results if you get any.

The car is quirky a bit if you haven't really driven it very much. Are you comfortable driving it yet?

It's about 65deg in my garage, it's a GSR, and it probably sat on the dealer lot for 6 months plus.

The windows had this acid rain type film on them from sitting outside so long I had to actually buff them out with a polish to get the stuff off, along with clay bar the whole car also.

It will be going in to get checked out as soon.

This might sound a bit strange, but I always let my car warm up...all four seasons. Car definitely is a lot smoother when I do this.

The bouncy/flat spot tire thing is completely normal.. Just comes along with owning a car with these type of tires.. If it sits a little while and its cold it does it all the time. This is my second Evo and depending on the tires you are running it will do it everytime..

Yes the engine will run like crap until it is warmed up. If you have to drive it on a cold start, drive very easy and don't take it above like 2500rpms AT THE MOST. It's better just to let it warm up a little bit before you drive it. I believe that it is because the compression that these engines have..

The jumping idle around 600-900rpms at idle is normal too. Sometimes you can get rid of it with a good tune, but its normal for a stock car.

The only thing that I'm not sure if it is normal or not is that sound you are describing when you start it up. When you say its like a "stuck bearing" noise, that's never good. I say just take it to the dealer if you are really concerned about it or try and make a video to post on here so we get a better idea of what you are talking about.

The dealer cannot and will not do ANYTHING about the other problems though (the flat spotted tires, the way it drives on cold start, the slightly bouncy idle). All those things come along with owning an X..

Thanks for the insight as I said still learning all about what is normal.

Comfortable Driving, and noticing things I have never felt in a car unless there is an issue are a couple diffrent things. If a car runs like crap when cold then I guess thats just what it is, but first time experience for me, and has nothing to do with driving and being comfortable.

As for actually being comfortable driving it yes I have no problem throwing it into a turn at 120+, and when the backend comes out It's no big deal very predictable, and solid handling from the factory in my OP. Love the way it tracks through turns.

Can't wait to see what it's like when I do some suspension stuff, but pretty sure it will be that much better.

read your owners manuel....it states you should never drive the car from a cold start unless the engine is still warm. failure to let the engine and turbo warm to the proper temperature can cause engine/turbo damage. this is the same policy you have to follow with any car that has a turbo in it.

in the evos case the manuel says you should let the car warm up until the temperature gauge starts to show progess(i.e. the digital bar begins to climb)
