Exclamation New EVO X owner with some concerns

Just picked up a new EVO X GSR 3 weeks ago and I need your guys help with a couple things I ran into while owning it so far.

First of all last week I filled up my gas tank for the first time. I had the pump set to automatically fill up like we all do. It was taking a little longer than usual to fill up so I pressed the lever again to see if it would pump faster and set the lock. Stayed filling at the same rate but it never stopped filling once it was done and overfilled my tank a bit and spilled some on the side of my car. This obviously can't be normal? I'm hoping it was only the pump at that gas station and not my car not knowing when to stop. I'll need to fill up soon again and I hope it does not happen again.

The next thing is I had a little message pop in on my cluster with a yellow triangle and a exclamtion mark in the middle. This was after I backed out my car from the drive way in the morning. I didn't notice it until a few seconds later when I put it in first gear and it just went away. This happen on Friday and has not come up since. This doesn't mean timing chain stretch does it??? Brand new car and has not been abused one bit. Only 450 miles so far.

Anyone else steering wheel lean just a tab bit to the left even though the wheels are pointing straight?

I will be taking in my car for it's first oil change at 3000 (that's right, RIGHT?) and I'll be sure to bring this up.

I'm probably over reacting but I just don't want to have any issues this early into owning the car. Overall, I am in love with my EVO X!!! And I apologize for the long read btw.

Okay for the gas pump question: This has nothing to do with your car. It would be a faulty pump, its suppose to have sensor that stops it form pumping when the gas reaches it.

The exlcimation mark will pop for any number of things, from needing to buckle your seat belt, to a door being open. I highly doubt you streched your timing chain in 450 miles.

My steering wheel doesn't seem to lean at all, might have them check your alignment when you go for your oil change.

These cars are a lot tougher than you're giving credit for! Gas pump is a bad pressure sensor on their end. Probably sprays gas on everyone's car.

Triangle could be anything from seatbelt to door not quite latched. If its an actual system error, it will stay on and scream bloody murder until you fix whatever it is.

As for the pull, that could very well be the slope built into all roads that allows for water to run off. Slopes to the right a few degrees, so your wheel would be a few degrees left Now that you have an evo, awd, brand new sticky tires, and legendary driver feedback, you notice it.

It is highly unlikely that you will EVER has a timing chain issue. It's very unusual and should be of virtually no concern to you. The Internet magnifies fears beyond reasonable levels.

3000 miles, 5000 miles, won't matter too much. Again, you're in a rally car with a radio and AC-it can take a lot of abuse, and rolling into an oil change at 2999 miles won't matter.

Also, spend some time learning about the fail safes built into your ecu system. It constantly monitors all dangerous variables from boost loads, fueling, temperature, pressure, timing, voltage, on and on. It's damn near sentient and will not destroy itself. It has several levels of protection it takes within milliseconds to prevent damage. Enjoy it!

Evos are really very simple, reliable, tough and predictable. They've been the tuner car of choice for 20 years at least, for good reason. The engine design is simple and strong, and far less complicated than most other powerful motors (LSV8 excluded).

Welcome to the club!

first of all, Welcome.

for the steering problem, have them re-align when you go for your first oil change.
i had the same problem, until i got it realigned.

as for gas pump problem... its the gas station's problem, not the car.

other than that, enjoy the car... baby it for the first few thousand miles and it'll be good for you.
you'll also encounter some shifting problem soon... like grinding 2nd to 3rd gear or something like that... just change the tranny fluid and get yourself some short shifter kit like from TWM and you should be set. i know the modding bug will bite you soon enough, might as well steer you to the right places.

I don't know if it's the same but when the exclamation mark would pop up on my Eclipse it was because of the tire pressure. Maybe your tires are just a little low.

Get your alignment checked to be sure about the steering wheel.

On most my cars the pump would stop, but then I was always able to add another dollar or two. I noticed that with the Evo when the pump stops I cannot add much more. In your case it might have been a faulty pump but at the same time when the pump does stop there isn't much room left.

I hear an echo? Haha I agree with everyone

Congrats on your new car and welcome to the club.

It's not a bad thing to pay attention to your car, and there's a spread sheet for preventative maintaince that you should follow. Have fun

First oil change is at 5k miles for normal driving conditions. Take your car back and have an alignment performed under warranty sooner rather than later (I had mine done at 750 miles).

The now makes complete sense with what you said. When I backed out my other car I left the door open in the evo and didn't have my seat belt on after I hopped back in while I was adjusting the radio.

I'll definitely ask about the alignment on the car and maybe have them print me out a read out of it too.

@ IKT Thanks for the recommendations on checking out the codes and such. Already starting reading some parts of the owners manual so I can get myself well known with the car. And the car deserves lots of credit haha, like Lance said in Fast in the Furious, "It's an amazing machine".

@bluaeon Notchy shifting is there but I already knew before even buying the car and I didn't care I love this car and those tweaks like short shifters (new bushings) and new tranny fluid seems to work for most people so, I'll be sure to do that. Would you recommend Redline Mt-85 or the MTL mix? I read that MT-85 was made so you didn't need to do the cocktail mix with the tranny fluids.

Thanks to everyone for the help!

Sometimes my tire pressure warning comes on in the morning before it gets hot and the tire expands so I wouldn't freak out about it if it only happened once. My "check tire pressure" warning came on last night because it was raining out and the temp dropped below 100 degrees. Good luck with the EVO.
