wideband on testpipe

quick question for the people with their wideband on their testpipe.

Where did you guys put the sensor after you attached it to the testpipe? Its not really long enough to reach anywhere safe but it does hang tightly underneath the car. i feel its not safe there though.

I also want to know this. I want to put a wideband on my stock cat, I know it goes before the cat, but wouldn't the sensor be too close to the turbo?

I had plenty of wire to bring it up through the engine bay and in through firewall. Not a big deal

Not really. I am about to install the ETS o2 split dp and it has the wideband bung right next to the oem a/f sensor. But I have also seen some people have the wideband on the manifold. Its all about getting the most accurate a/f reading coming out of the motor which location shouldnt be that much of a big deal. But who knows someone might put one by a muffler lol

why thru the engine bay? You can route it into the cabin the same way the primary o2 is run, via the bung under the right side seat

im talking about from the testpipe, from where it goes into the testpipe to where it connects to the other wiring that goes to the gauge, that wire is like a foot long the most. from its connection to the testpipe where can you possibly put that? the only thing is to let it hang tightly.

i put it through the passenger side floor to bring it in. more than enough wiring there.

When asking an installation question, why would you want to limit the respondents to those who did their installation incorrectly?

As long as it is secured to something, I don't think it'll be a problem. I can't remember where I personally put the connector. I'm pretty sure it's under the vehicle somewhere. But I did wrap it up real well in some convoluted tubing and taped it up. I haven't had any problems yet. I think they may even make some heat shrink tubing large enough to cover the entire connector.

I wouldnt say its a bad location since all its doing is metering the a/f mixture in the exhaust from the motor. Now if you had an exhaust leak before the testpipe then that will cause an inaccurate reading. Like I mentioned in my last post really position of it wouldnt make too much of a difference either testpipe, downpipe, manifold either way. yeah it might be more efficient and accurate the closer on the exhaust it is to the motor but unless you have a exhaust leak I dont see why it wouldnt matter.

I would think the front area of a TP is ~18" down from the turbine. That seems like a pretty decent location honestly.

For a EGT, it would be way too far away, but that's not WB AFR.

Too far for an EGT, but your AFR should be the same from the turbo to almost the end of the car unless you have a leak.

Yeah, my first answer was too extreme. Given that some tuners can have great success with **** probes (which is what I call a shop's wideband that is shoved up the tail-pipe), I shouldn't have been so picky on this. Sorry about that.

I should have saved my pickiness for the EGT, but others have already done that. No fun for me here.

lol "**** probes"... don't think I can avoid calling it that from now on.

The next time I see a Chevy Cavalier on Daytons with the huge aluminum spoiler I'm going to have to refer to it's "**** probed AFR gases definitely reading beans and rice"
