opinions on this deal - 2011 evo GSR
Hey guys looking for opinions on this deal, I don't want to get burned and I know I can trust the honest opinions on here... So here's the deal..
Local ford dealer got this EVO in on trade a couple days ago for a New Mazda speed 3. Asking price on the EVO is 31,000. Exterior and interior are in brand new condition, it was a 1 owner vehicle with 9800 miles on it. Wicked white in color, 5 speed trans, hid headlights, Rockford fosgate sound, aero kit etc. No sunroof and no leather.
Ive never driven an EVO but it felt good, didn't pull, brakes didn't pulse, clutch didn't slip, no funky noises, looked brand new underneath. One thing I did notice is that the tires are wearing unevenly. The outsides of the tires are way more worn on the front than the insides. With bringing this up they agreed to knock 1000 off the price to cover a new set of tires.
Also I am trading in my 2010 lancer gts with 33,000 miles and they offered exactly what I owe which is 14,700.
So all said and done the numbers look like this..
30,000 sale price
14,700 trade credit paid in full
4.9% interest for 75 months
2000 cash down
Total payment of 459.01 all said and done
Like I said I don't want to get burned and after spending HOURS negotiating with the dealer I believe its either take their offer or walk at this point. NADA tells me its a FAIR deal, not an amazing deal but I just want to confirm on here and get opinions. Thanks in advance!

Yes it has stock wheels and tires, I wanted 1400 taken off since that's about what they run on tirerack for OEM tires but they came back with 1000 since they are being so "generous" with my trade.
Also the only modification on the EVO is a k&n air filter
And also the wear on my lancer gts is similar on the front tires, which I know is not due to abuse because I am the original owner and just daily drive it so I think.the tires on the EVO may be wearing due to a common alignment issue on the 08+ models

Showing noticeable wear after 10k miles sounds like a bad alignment. If the dealer is going to align it make sure they do it right with an all wheel alignment not a front wheel alignment. Also make sure they change the oil with synthetic factory fill!!
I will confirm the all wheel alignment and I watched them change the oil, they used motorcraft full synthetic 5w30 (ford dealership) and the tech was actually a mitsu guy so it made me feel a little better about it...

I had to replace my OEM tires with 11K miles on the car with no tracking and just spirited driving. Those things wear waaaay too quickly! Not a big fan of 75 month loan terms either. If you do the math you are gonna end up paying 36,425 for a used Evo which although not terrible can certainly be had for better deals.
With my car for example....used '10 WW MR Touring 4K miles....total paid was $37480.
Good luck!!

A lot of these car arrive "off the boat" with bad alignments (mine did). The previous owner probably never addressed the issue or didn't notice but that can by remedied rather easily.
I'm not privy to your credit situation but 4.9% seems kind of high so you may want to check out your own bank or a credit union to see what kind of deals they're offering. Also a 75 month loan is quite a long time so just be sure you can afford the payments or even want to keep the vehicle that long.
Good luck on your purchase!

I wouldn't worry about the alignment or tire wear issues. Most of the time the stock tires only last like 12k miles so they will need to be replaced soon anyway. Evos are usually misaligned from the factory and that's prolly where the uneven wear came from.
I don't think it's that bad of a deal. The 4.9% isnt bad i guess, just higher than what im used to, but of course that is more to do with you.. and the 75 months kind of sucks. 30k isnt terrible IMO..
Plus when you get new tires get something else other than the stock tires like NT05s, RS-3s, StarSpecs, or maybe even S-drives(if you want the tires to last a while- although they shouldn't even be used in the same sentence as the others I mentioned). Other brand of tires are a lot cheaper than OE and work wonderfully.

well 4.9 isnt bad at all for a used car...but 75 months is a long time....honestly you should go to your nearest Mitsu dealer and see what you can get out of them...they might give you more for trade..also check with carmax they might cut you a bigger check...but keep in mind if you do a trade you dont have to pay taxes on the trade...the dealer eats that cost upfront...what you would pay for an evo with those options out the door is about 37k + tax/title..but if you can get a lower rate and more money for the trade you might only pay 50ish dollars more per month...if the stars align correctly ofcourse....just something to keep in mind since it would be a brand new 2012 or 2013 and all you have to lose is a few hours of your time.
It's not an amazing deal. You forgot to factor in the title/registration fees and a few other fees they hit you with. I got my X for 30,500 right out the door including tax, title, registration, etc. My rate is 4.6% I believe? But I put enough money down that I'm already done paying off the interest I would've accumulated. I owe 24k on the car now and it's a 2011 and I JUST passed 16k miles.
