So im buying a new Evo x and the dealership that has it also has an 08 with a couple of aftermarket parts. For example it has the following: Amuse R1 Exhaust, Gruppe M intake, arc front pipe an HKS BOV and a ARC intercooler.

The dealership offered to trade the parts for the stock ones on the new evo x. Would it be safe to run it all for 3-4k miles till the car breaks in or should i get it tuned right away?

any help will be appreciated.

I believe "Congratulations" are in order for being or soon to be an Evo X owner. If you've have not read any of my prior post, I'm one of the few Evo owners on here who encourage other Evo owners (especially the new ones) to lay off on the mods, at least for a while.
In the end, it's YOUR car so you can do whatever you want to do with it. However, in my opinion, I really don't see why "new" Evo owners want to take a great stock car and void the warranty by doing mods to the car. My plan for my Evo (2010 GSR) is to enjoy the car stock until it's paid off. Once its paid off, I'll buy a family sedan or SUV (I'm a soon-to-be family man) for my daily driver and THEN I'll start putting $$$ into the Evo to get it nice and mean. I'll be able to take it to the track and wreak havoc on the track and if something blows on the car, it won't affect my day-to-day life because its my fun car.
You can imagine how many Evo Xs I've seen here in PHX, AZ that people have modded the hell out of them, voided the warranty, and then these people are trying to sell them for top dollar and can't get rid of them. It just doesn't make sense to me. I would say that if you are getting a new X, I wouldn't mod it right away unless you meet one of the following criteria:
1. You have the $$$ for all mods AND repairs/upkeep. Most people spend all their $$ modding the car and then cut corners in repair/upkeep and end up ruining their cars.
2. You are mechanically inclined and/or have access to parts and/or mechanically inclined people.
3. You are planning on having this car for several years and not only owning it for 2-3 years and then selling it.
As I said before, I am one of the few people who just enjoys the car stock and wont touch any performance parts until the car is paid off. Its your car and I know there are a lot of people on here who will tell you to "Go for it". Whatever you do, just be smart about it and know what you can/can't afford to do. Congrats again man.

 

Are you buying it to race? Because factory it should be faster than most of the avg road vehicles, i agree with lando, only mods i am gonna do is intake and cat-back, then maybe later on go with AP, but really no reason to have crazy mods because i am not a racer, but if you are thats cool too, but you wouldnt need mods to walk your local civic etc to the park. And i don't think i would buy a 08 with mods already on it because that alone should hint at the possible condition, plus if your like me you want stock so that anything done to it is accountable by you and also gives you pride because you did it..

 

im not buying an 08. im bought a brand new one. the car that the parts are on is an 2008 evo x Mr. The parts on the car are really expensive + rare. Im not a racer but do go to the track once in a while.

 

IMHO I would stay stock. Save your warranty while you can especially if you don't have any plans to take it to the track so soon. Although the parts may be rare, the dealership is trying to bring the 08 back to stock for a reason. I wish I had stayed stock on my first Evo longer.. Just my .02

Thanks for backing me up brotha. Duffman19, looks like you def already have the mod bug bite on you. I would honestly call the dealership to see if they will install the parts AND keep the warranty on the vehicle. If they will, I think that makes your decision a little easier. If they don't, I would enjoy the car a little bit (Give it AT LEAST 6 months man . . . . c'mon . . . lol) and then mod. One thing I've learned in life is that whenever something goes wrong (car, cell phone, A/C unit, dishwasher, computer, etc) the party responsible for doing the warranty work will look for ANY and ALL methods to get out doing the work. Dealerships are probably no different. You bought the car, they got your $$$ already. Hopefully your situation is different but you've really got to make sure you've got all your I's dotted and T's crossed.

I would take everything but the BOV, those are some high-dollar parts.

 

Def go with the 08!

 

If they are swapping the parts I would get them 100%. Those are some high quality/rare parts. I vote go for it.

Like ^^ said, check and see if they will still honor the warranty. If they say yes, GET IT IN WRITING!! Don't just take their word for it.

 

Just a heads up if there was intercooler piping mentioned and it's on the MR I don't think the lower pipe is the same on the GSR.

 

Get the parts and get it on writing that they will still honor the factory warranty since they r the ones who installed it.

But on a brand new car, I wouldn't mod it until after the car is paid off. That's just me though and that's on a brand spanking new car with no miles. I wouldn't get the 08 only coz of the fact that it's been beat on.

 

The parts are pretty damn nice. FYI he isnt looking to choose between the new evo and the 2008, he is just looking to get the parts from the 2008 swapped with the new evo.

 

Yeah, but he still need to get it in writing that Mitsubishi or at least that very dealership would still honor his warranty no matter what happens coz if it's swapped, it should be considered as "dealer installed parts" and hence should be covered.

 

Sick, get the one with the parts, and while you're at it, take some pics and post them so we can all drool! :-)
