20k miles on my Evo X no dealership type maintenance
Hey guys,
So I have an Evo X GSR 2010. Purchased jan 2011. I've gone through the maintenance schedule and to me it seems like I had to take the car in to the dealership every 5k miles. Well I haven't done so..... what do you guys recommend I get done? flush any fluids etc? My driving style is not aggressive. I drive speed limit and the car's been max revved about 6 times in its lifetime so far. I change the oil myself about 3-4k mile intervals. I changed the air filter to a stock sized K&N and just clean it every year. Been rotating the tires, still on my stock advans, they're almost bald will change them soon. Any input would be highly appreciated. Thank you.

Prepare for people not to catch the part where you said you have been changing your own oil.
Honestly, I have been taking my X to the dealership for fluid changes just so to show good maintenance history in their records. Off dealership records I did an oil change and replaced trans, tc, and diffs @18k miles.
I went to the Evo IX MR 6speed DiaQueen in the trans. Shifts like butter. I'm liking it. Went DiaQueen in the rest of the drive train.

Okay let me put it this way.
The heavy use index in the owners manual said to do Trans, TCase and Diffs @ 15k miles. I did mine at 18k and my trans fluid was dirty already.
You should go out and do it, whether you drive it hard or not. No one ever complains they did too much maintenance on their performance car

No way in that is a lot of money? Or no way, that's cheap? He's right, it is about $80 worth of fluid, the labor will be more.
But really, you need convincing to change your fluids? Do you need convincing to go to the dentist too? You've got a lot of money wrapped up in the car and, given its performance as well as its weaknesses, I think you should be taking an aggressive approach and change the fluids regularly. It's a small price to pay.

I drop drivetrain fluids annually no matter what the mileage (meaning if less than required). I changed it after the first 5000 for break-in.
I change engine oil every 5000 with Amsoil and Mobil 1 filter if only highway use. Sooner if mostly city.
Something else most people dont think about, get a good alignment as soon as you drive the car off the lot. Dealer or factory aligment is crap.
Suit yourself. Its your car.

But dealers are thieves for the most part. At best they are prudent business men that need to feed their families and meet their high overhead and still earn a profit.
Any new car should get a screen by a good mechanic independent of the dealer it was purchased from, and a good alignment.
Do a 30K service and call it a day. I'd rather spend the 200-300 bucks for the service and have that peace of mind. Doing maintenance on your car shouldn't be something that people need convince you. So glad to hear you're going to do it now
