Hi guys,
Some of you might not remember me but maybe others maybe will. Its been over 2 years ago since i sold my Evo X and i am currently trying to get back into one. Ive gone through a lot of cars in these past 2-3 years and i am currently only missing my Evo X. I recently bought a Scion FR-S since i wanted an inertia dependable light weight track car, the build has come a long way since i got the car back in June. I love it and probably will never sell it since i have spent a lot of money and sweat on the build and in my opinion its is one of the best driver cars that money can buy today, it might not be the fastest but it is one of the most fun problem is i only enjoy it on the weekends and my DD sucks. Since i sold the X i got into a E90 M3, R-35 GT-R, C63 AMG , and Nissan S14 but i havent missed any of those cars as of today, i just miss my EVO
.The main reason i am here posting on evo x forums is because i am in a bit of a dilemma right now and need your help. About 1 year ago i purchased a 2012 Ram Laramie Longhorn 2500 4x4 fully loaded, i traded in my c63 and my old ram 1500 since i thought of getting rid of two cars for one and using the new ram 2500 as a DD and tow vehicle and still have money left over in my pocket.... Big mistake, dont get me wrong i love the truck its got everything i need but it guzzles gas as a DD i get around 13 city 20 hwy and its a ***** to park, and its loosing value since its a dodge faster than the us dollar in the economic crisis.:mad0259:
MSRP on it was 63k i only paid 52k so i think i got a good deal. Now i can probably sell it right now for around 46k only because i have some mods on it and add a bit of cash on my side and have a total of around 54k as a budget to invest in a new DD and a tow vehicle, btw my truck is paid off.
So here comes the hard part, as a daily i need to find something under 44k thats fun, sequential tranny, and gets decent mpg over 20 city. And i have around 10k left for a tow vehicle for the FR-S. How good would you guys think the Evo X MR touring will be as a daily driver with the mods listed below?
Im cross shopping between these cars for my DD.
-2011-2012 135I With M package ( Keeping Stock )
-2011-2012 B8 Audi S4 ( Probably just a chip )
-Evo X MR Touring ( IC and piping, Quiet Turbo back exhaust, Intake, wheels, swift springs, do luck trunk. )
-Range Rover Evoque ( if i buy this i dont need a tow vehicle any more)
-New Touareg TDI ( same as evoque it will be my DD and tow vehicle.)
Tow vehicle options under 10k:
-Used Ram 2500 Diesel
-Used Jeep Liberty CRD
-Used Silverado HD diesel or gas
-Used Tacoma
Any advice is welcome, thanks in advance. If you have a MR touring how is it for dd? What kind of MPG's are you seeing?
Here are some pics of my old Evo X and the cars that replaced it, hopefully some of you remember my old Evo

The day she was gone to her new home in Canada:

Then Came the 2010 GT-R and 2009 E90 M3

Then the C63 and S14.5

My current FR-S

Let's face it. If you get back into an Evo, you know you're going to eventually want to do more to it than what you listed. The Touareg and the Ranger Rover aren't really that great fuel wise..in the city anyways (19 city/28hwy) but they probably wouldn't be bad towing. The 1M is a great car and so is the S4. None of these cars/SUVs really get fantastic mpg but any of them would beat the Ram. If you really want something that is going to be a good/fun DD, the evo is a good choice if you're going to mod it the way you say you will (my buddy gets around 19-21 in the city with his MR). If you want something that is going to be luxurious/sporty I would go with the 1M or the S4.
The MR is generally comfy for dd is fun to drive. If you take it generally easy you'll probably get the gas mileage your looking for. The GSR is more fun but the MR for general purpose driving well if available thats the key i grab first. Nice list of cars!

I own a mineral trading company, I started working with my brother in law and it skyrocketed from there. We basically sell metals and minerals from Mexico to China and other countries. I also co-own a real estate development company in Mexico. In the US i opened a ticket broker business with my brother we specialize in premium and sold out events and arrange suites with catering for VIP's in the events of their choice. I am a Mexican Citizen with a US investor Visa so my main businesses are in Mexico but i have offices in Canada, the US , and Mexico. I studied Business Administration in Universidad Tecnologica de Monterrey in Monterrey Mexico, and i am currently finishing up my MBA from university of Phoenix.
Unfortunately i dont have money to throw around hence why i am selling the truck to purchase the evo and tow vehicle.
Really where did it end up? I sold it to a guy that lives in pennsylvania and he actually came down to pick up the car and drove it all the way back home.
As long as i can beat the rams mpg and have an easier time parking im happy.
Thanks for the input man, i agree my ex GSR was a blast to drive but i do want to have an auto for DD.

This is whats called a first world problem (though as an evo owner I can't really say much against it, its just funny to see what people worry over in this country)
Anyway, to your question, a TDI Toureg would actually do pretty well in terms of gas mileage and great in off road situations (not mentioned in your situation but they are pretty impressive). I would get this before a truck or a land rover any day if its just for towing a FR-s, NO QUESTION about it.
For the sporty DD, gas mileage should be pretty close all around though it doesn't seem from your choices (and the money you have spent on cars) that extra gas money is that big of a concern to you. All of them can be fun so its all about what you like visually.
1) Drive a BMW people immediately think you are a douche and girls think you may be a douche who has money which normally means they can overlook the douche part and the 1M looks kind of squatty and akward imho (the m3 looks better) .
2) The S4 is heavy comfortable and look nice but can't really match an M or a mildly tuned Evo so live with being under performing (its a dd so may not be important to you)
3) Evo, you already know what you are getting and people are often confused about what it is and is underrated by the uneducated which seems like it would frustrate you (just a guess by your high profile garage). Often men (car guys) will stop and look before any girl will take a second look. You will go relatively unnoticed but I'd say its the most fun of the three. And can eaasily be made the fastest (as you already know).
In the end its splitting hairs any of the three would be enjoyable and are good options it just depends on how you want to look to others.

I drool over it every time I see it.
I had a '96 S14 and It was one the best cars I have driven and I regretted having to sell it.
The BMW only takes a Cobb to really liven it up. In my opinion it's one of the best bang for the buck cars if your looking for right around 400whp for a daily driver. If you want more, I would go towards the Evo. The 1M is also missing AWD, so if this vehicle is needed for snow you may want to go with the Evo.
My 335i is horrible in the snow, making peak torque at 2200rpm =X

If you have money to throw around (appears you do) then just buy the evo as your daily and keep the frs and ram. Done
