Clutchless shifting Who does it?
So in the diesel world (heavy trucks) floating the gears or RPM matching is the prefered method of shifting, other than double clutching. So with that in mind it is not harsh on a tranny as long it is done corectly. I do it every so often on my GSR and find that the shifting is more positive than using the clutch. Now this is for normal driving i would not try to do it at high engine speeds so I'm curious if any one else does this.
Ive done this on my non turbo 2g before when Im feeling too lazy to use the clutch. However I tried it on the Evo a few times and it usually resulted in grinding the gear. It doesnt help that the synchros are going bad as it is. Does it seem easier to do it at low RPMs, IE shifting at 2.5K rather than 3.2-3.3k?
Actually you don't grind gears at all and because of the syncros they make the shift smother as long as the rpm matching is done correctly, it's mostly to give the clutch a break especially at low rpm I have done it as far as 5.5k but since the rpm drop is so large I try to do it only at lower rpm
I was told on the last forum that discussed clutchless shifting around town, that just holding the shifter against the next gear while you wait for the revs/gear to match, even the slightest amount, will wear the synchro faster than just shifting with the clutch. I solved my laziness with shifting by simply buying a winter beater with an automatic transmission, namely, a Dodge Avenger. If I need to run somewhere and really dont feel like shifting gears 11tybillion times before I get there, I just rock the auto. I can eat a cheeseburger and play with myself at the same time while driving to Autozone to get parts.
Play with yourself you say huh! Gives the term beater a whole new meaning lol.....back on topic I was just curious I been driving manuals for a long time and by no means am I suggesting that clutch less shifting is the way to shift all the time I was curious if any other members were or doing it once in awhile.

My STi used to be great with clutchless, every shift would drop in like butter,....but the GSR's 5spd sucks. It's so notchy even with the synchros i'm not even willing to really try it.

Only the "less fortunate people" shift without clutch on the synchronized transmission.
Do not do it.

I know what kind of tranny we got it was never implied that people should go out and do it. This is a simple question whuch requires a simple answer not a class on transmissions. But I do understand why you would not want to do it however that was never the point of the question. Anyway no worries
To answer your simple question: I don't.
ps. if all you wanted was to know how many people do this (and didn't want to be told why it's a silly thing to do), then you should have made this a poll, instead of a regular thread

The type of your transmission is your answere for your question

Now we are on the very pleasent place withe the Evolution if you need a clutchless transmission there you have the SST

The troll side of me wants to point of that the SST has two clutches, not zero; there just isn't a pedal for the driver to control them.
The moderator side of me (which I'm still not used to) wants to close the thread.
The smart side thinks that I should just move on without posting.
The idiot side won.
