Does anyone track their EVO?......

Which track (circuit, not drag) and what mods have you done to it?

Pads, rotors, brake fluid, tires etc.....

Thanks

No one races their evo, it voids the warranty

Hmmm, We do. So what's the question?

Tracks- Throughout NE
Poconos (All)
Lime Rock
Louden
Monticello
NJMP (Both)
Watkins Glen
Summit

For details on the car's build, the website link below has all of the information. I think you should visit the motorsports section for more details on what people use. For our class we have used very successfully:

Tires - Goodyear Eagle RS
Pads - Essex CL R8
Fluid - Motul 600 or 660
Rotors - Girodisc two piece floating

These choices are driven by trial and error, research and, importantly, sponsors.

I've tracked it completely stock and it was great! The confidence the car gives you really lets you have a lot of fun.

Track was Streets of willow out here in CA.
My next track day (next month) will have the following wear items replaced though:

Pads - Endless & AMS ss brake lines
Brake fluid - Motul RBF600
Rotors - Stock
Tires - Nitto NT05

The car also has the following: Eibach prokit springs, Tomei upper intercooler pipe, Greddy SE elite catback and HKS panel filter.

Thanks for the info. guys!

John, nice looking race car, congrats! I race the same tracks as you do (except Louden, Monticello and Poconos) with PCA in my 911.

I am looking for an EVO as a toy, fun DD, occasional track day car at LRP since my 911 doesn't meet the sound restrictions.

Should I buy new or used? I really don't want to mod it more than the basics (pads, rotors, fluid and tires.....)

Again, thanks for any info.

I bought my Evo specifically to use on the track for HPDE and already signed up for NASA NE events at NJMP and Watkins Glen.

When the OEM pads are spent, I'll try a set of Ferodo DS2500 or Carbotech XP8/10. The first time the brake fluid gets changed I'll install SS lines and replace with DOT4.

Outside of that I'm not in any rush to do mods since I would rather put my money into HPDE events.

If you aren't doing much other than tracking it and leaving it pretty stock, I would say do the pads, fluid, rotors, tires, and get a tune. You could buy a nice clean used one.. I always recommend to buy new, but in your case, a clean used one would work.

Would you get the 5-speed or 6-speed SST tranny? If you get the SST, you would prolly need to get an aftermarket tranny cooler as well..

The EVO is fine on the track stock, however there have been issues with the clutch master cylinder (its plastic) on the standards and an overheating issue with the SSTs. If you get one for the occasional track day I would say your fine but if your tracking it often then the CMC needs to be upgraded. If you get the SST id shy away from pushing it too hard, just from what I've read. As far as new or used...its up to you. If you do but used I would suggest getting a '11+ as Mitsu did a few revisions such as upgraded diff pins and such.

The car is fine stock, however the first thing you should change once you get faster (even in stock form) is brake fluid. I seen a few of my buddies boil the brake fluid and almost go off the track.

The question of what (few) mods should be done to an otherwise stock Evo X to go to a track day is fine. But please stay on topic. The question of GSR vs MR already has threads (and has been beaten to death), so let's not include that, please. I've never tracked my Evo, but since the OE pads and fluids were not really enough for autocrossing, I'd agree with changing those. In fact, I'd do that, flip the camber bolts, get it aligned (since every Evo I've ever seen has come with a terrible alignment from the factory), and sign up. Only driving it will tell what needs to be done.

I strongly agree. You need enough seats time to know how you want the car to develop. This is based on tracks, usage, driving style and skill, money, intent.

Start with an alignment, and fluids. Then pads when you've burned through the oem.

As far as new or used question. Well, it depends again on your intent and pocketbook. New is nice as you know exactly what you've got and can start timing the wear on items. Makes development easy, but expensive. Old is ok, but either buy a dedicated track car with good records or bone stock. In between can be hard as you don't know what you've got.

Im going to track my 2013 X GSR on Feb 16th (4 weeks). I've never tracked before and my mods are listed in my sig. For ny other first time trackers, are you guys keeping ASC on or turning it off? I was thinking about trying both. Starting with ASC on then possibly removing it to the first OFF position

I had it on for my first session but turned it to the first off position for the rest of the day. I was just learning the course and proper way to drive so I didn't really push the car hard enough to notice a difference. My next track day (feb 17) ill have it completely off.

Do this for your first day. I typically recommend to students that they leave it on until they can tell it is getting in their way. This typically means on full for the first session or two. Then one off for the rest of the day or two. Take your time before you go off off.
