Upcoming Maintenance Service Price

Hey guys,

I am coming up on my 30K mile service and want to get an idea of what the "stealership" quoted me seems fair. At my last service (oil change) at 27,948 miles, they said the following will need to be done at 30K to keep my warranty:

1. Transmission Service $145.00
2. Transfer Case Service $110.00
3. Rear Differential Service $110.00
-------------------------------------------
Total: $365.00

Optional oil change would also add $100 to above listed price.

Does this seem like a fair price? I'm probably going to call my old mechanic shop to get a quote from this as well just to see how the prices vary. I am also NOT going to do this work on my own because I want to keep the warranty do please don't suggest that option. lol. Any help you guys can give would greatly be appreciated.

Why do you think you can't replace your own fluids and keep your warranty?

Performing your own maintenance will not void the warranty.

That, right there, tells me that - even if you pay someone else to replace your driveline fluids - you should go somewhere else.

Make sure that includes parts and labor. All the other quotes I've seen for the 30k are $600-$1500. Also I thought spark plugs and serpentine belt were supposed to be done at 30?

That's pretty normal. They charge around $14/qt for Mobil 1, plus a filter and half an hour of labor. It definitely makes me think the prices the OP mentioned don't include everything because it should be a lot more

That's the price of an oil change I've seen at most dealers.

I use AMSoil and the OEM Diaqueen fluids and it is prolly around $100 for the fluids but you can use the gallon of Diaqueen a few times. There isn't a lot of "labor" to it really.. It's a simple drain and fill- undo the drain plugs, put em back in and refill with new fluid. The most difficult/time consuming thing is taking the plastic undertray off..

If that's the total price for the entire drain and fill jobs on the tranny, transfer case, rear diff, and AYC.. That's a pretty fair deal IMO.. From a dealer anyway..

They're just raping you left and right...with no lube either. Doing your own fluids will take you an hour or two tops.

I agree. If the oil change were $80 as mentioned above I would feel that is fair for dealership pricing as well. If you want cheaper, find a non-dealer local shop you trust, perferably one with Evo X experience and knowledge though. If all else fails, at least Mitsu dealerships have the service manuals available rather than just a mechanic stabbing blindly in the dark.

Damn,

Looks like my post has started a little bit of controversy so let me try my best to clarify on a few things:

1. I'm not sure if the quote they gave me ($365) included labor or not. I would have to call and clarify. When I finished my last oil change, the guy said that my 30K service was coming up and to keep my warranty, I HAD to have those items done. Whether its done there or not is another issue but he said that those items had to be done in order to keep my warranty. The $100 extra I said for oil change was MY estimate because that is about how much my last oil change cost me. $92.74 to be specific:
$14.50 (labor)
$62.50 (5 quarts of mobil one 10W30)
$2 oil pan drain plug
$6.50 oil filter
$7.24 tax

From what I've read on the Evolution.Net forums AND other forums, this is about average for what most places will charge you to change the oil using synthetic

2. Keeping my warranty: It was always MY understanding that in order to keep warranties on any vehicle, you MUST have the routine/scheduled maint done by a CERTIFIELD mechanic. Doesn't matter if its stealership or not but it has to be done by CERTIFIED people so Mitsu can know the job was done right and that you have an invoice showing the work that was done in case you have a mechanical problem in the future that falls under warranty work. If I'm wrong, please correct me.

Well, time to update your understanding, then . There is no requirement that it be done by anyone in particular. You can do it yourself. The only advantage of having it done by a third party - certified or not - is having better documentation that it was done (at a certain mileage) if you end up in a squabble with Mitsu.

Iowa999,

Thx for the info. Good to know that I have the option to do it myself. However, like you said, if there is any issue over warranty work, I would rather have that peace of mind knowing my paperwork from a certified mechanic would hold a lot more weight, than if I did it myself. I know all dealerships are different but you never know how they'll be until they f**k you. Certain dealerships are Evo friendly while others will aid you more since you bought your Evo from them. Since I'm not sure how Evo friendly my Mitsu dealership is AND I didn't buy my Evo from them, I'm not exactly how high on their "customer appreciation" list I'll be. lol
