Best way to clean off under carriage

Sorry guys, wasn't sure whether should should be in show or shine or general. Basically I live in MD and they have been putting out the salt again and its all over my car. I was going to have my car washed tomorrow morning but was curious as to how other owners clean under the car. Should I just crawl under and spray it off with a water hose? Should I wash the under body with soap? If so then how? Any advice would be greatly appreciated as to how you guys do it.

*there is a car wash down the road that has an under carriage washer, would that be sufficient?

i wouldnt worry about it... the unibody is designed to withstand corosion. Unless your concerned about a few bolts, or if you have aftermarket braces made of mild steel.

but an automatic car wash in my opionion will be more then enough, or you could go to a self serve car wash and spray it with the preassure washer, or on my Jeep i just throw a lawn sprinkler underneat and let it run for 20 mins.. on an evo you would probably need to drive it up some ramps for this.

This will get you taken care of, and what I did while living in Minnesota (back when I had my IX).

Probably a good idea if you have salt on the roads in the winter. I've read that it's actually the salt + cold that is causing the ACD pumps to go out.

If it's a pressure washer, just keep it away from bushings / bearings / seals. Don't directly squirt them and hold it there.

Also, at least in Missouri, the "premium" washes always include "rocker panel washers" which are high pressure nozzles directed at your side skirts and enough spray gets under there to clean off anything.

LOL I never thought of the sprinkler idea for my jeep.

But in central PA I deal with the same thing. My evo is half OB half RoadSaltWhite. When spring rolls around take the wheels off and hit it with the pressure washer. Thats what I've done last year and all my other cars.

That's exactly what mine is like right now. But it's supposed to snow again today. Tomorrow will be a week since I've had it washed so I think I'll get it done then. My biggest concern is the ACD pump and the possible damage to the paint and under the body. I don't want to have any rust on it, because god knows we've got enough salt on the roads right now...... I probably have enough salt on my car for a family of 4 to last 5 years.....

That new RS white color isn't so attractive, huh?

I cant wash my X enough right now with the massive amounts of salt in and around Milwaukee. The touchless near my work does do a half decent job on the undercarriage and sides, though. I have a clean car for at least 6 minutes after a wash
