service engine soon light came on

hey guys i have 20,000 miles on my 2011 gsr this moring started the car to warm for 15min, got in the car and the light was on. i dont understand, didnt beat on the car at all recently or ever. it has been in the teens in temperature around here the nyc area over the past weeek and got snow yesterday. is it cause its so cold out?? also every oil change has been done on my own so the system was never reset or anyhthing like that.... car runs fine like always. anyone have a clue?

Is this your first car?? Just curious as any car after 1996 follows OBD-II protocol. You have to have the code read just like any other car.

I couldn't see owning any performance vehicle and not having a way to read diagnostic trouble codes.

But hey Autozone, Advanced Auto, etc... Will pull them free for ya

Get the code checked. The snow or cold may have just killed a sensor.

sometimes when it's really cold, mine with throw a rich idle code. no big deal.

In my case, it was the rubber gasket inside the gas cap. It wasn't damaged but after making sure the gasket was correctly seated around the inside of the cap, then re-installed the gas cap; the SES message went away.

It makes me appreciate my IX more and more as I keep noticing how sensitive this car is. But as soon as I get a message that the car needs it's tampon changed, I'm putting it up for sale
