Back in the Evo Game

Allo fellow X owners. It's been just over 3 years since I was a dummy and wrecked my last X. Bounced around from a Jeep to a Touareg and finally got pissed off enough last month to fly out to Montreal and pick up a 2008 MR in Phantom Black. Drove from Montreal - Halifax over a weekend and am happy to say that I'm loving the car once again.

Short little bio on the car.

2008 MR, Phantom Black
~53,000 km
Mods...
4 1/2" UR Front Mount Intercooler
UR Lower Pipe
Injen Upper Pipe
Injen Intake
Grimmspeed 3 port
T1R downpipe
T1R cat
T1R cat-back exhaust
DW850cc injectors
DW200 fuel pump
eTuned ~330whp VD and still working on it.

Eclipse deck with nav
Kenwood Excellon component speakers all around
Kenwood Excellon 450x4 amp

The car pulls great, nice and smooth.

Anyone in Atlantic Canada hit me up!

Looks good. I like the mud flaps and debadging. Don't see as many front badges missing these days, mostly the trunk.

Future plans for the car?

Always plans...

In conversation with a very reputable shop to replace the intake, piping, exhaust and DP with their product for some kind of marketing/sponsorship deal. When I do that I'll also be swapping the turbo for the new MHI offering from FP. Most of that work will probably take place at the end of the year. I may swap in a new intake and the catback prior just because I hate having parts lay around.

Need some coil-overs asap, hoping to buck up for some JRZ stuff, similar to what's on the Gates 311. Kind of overkill but I hate doing things twice.

The overall goal of the car is to have an 11 second MR that has a really quick spool and can rip it up on the track as well.

I'm not 100% sold on all the SST upgrades out there. I know they will help, but if I tune the car to keep wtq under 400 I shouldn't run into any reliability issues there. Until we get tuning on the SST completely sorted the added clutch packs etc don't do as much as they should - or so I'm told.

Not sure on wheels yet though. I'll keep my black BBS set for winters (I know, expensive winters :S) and want something strong but different from what everyone else runs. Rotas, Gramlights etc are all too common. I'm on a hunt, but no luck so far.

Welcome back man! Car looks great If I had to get a X, I think I would probably get an MR.

When I was looking for this car I considered a GSR and even took a couple for a test drive. I'm not a die hard stick guy - I can row the gears with the best of them but I actually really like sequential shift boxes and paddles. It's hard to explain until you drive one consistently but you really do feel connected to the car.

Mine isn't the premium so it doesn't have the sunroof or anything, but I love the leather/alcantra interior and the BBS wheels. The stock stereo in it was horrible, just like the GSR so I've swapped that out for an Eclipse head unit (which is awesome by the way) and a set of Kenwood Excellon components and a Kenwood 450wx4 amp in the trunk. It sounds almost as good as a single 10" sub due to the sound deadening in the doors I installed.

If you're looking for a complete monster then the GSR is the way to go as the transmission is basic and reliable. If you're looking for a well powered X that's a blast to drive I'll say MR hands down.
