Whine noise when i accelerate

So ive had my 2013 Evo X MR for about 3 months now and it has about 3k miles on it. I recently noticed a whine noise when i accelerate, from about 2500k to 3000k RPM, and then it goes away, its kinda feint and you actually have to listen for it. It comes from the front passenger side dash kind of. Does anyone know what this is?

Mine does the same thing when accelerating from a dead stop, but usually goes away after its warmed up. Only noticeable in 1st and 2nd gear. I've got 42k miles on mine and it's done it since I bought it 5k miles ago. I always passed it off as just normal body/tranny whine. I don't think it's anything to worry about. If you are worried about it take it to the dealer and file it under warranty being that yours is newer.

Maybe someone else with more experience can chime in, I don't believe its the T-Case death whine, since I don't get it at higher speeds, just low speeds and when it's cold out. FWIW I also just changed out my tranny fluid last month, and all my other fluids appear to be good. I'm gonna take it to the dealer for the 45k mile service and have them check all the fluid levels. (I don't know how to check the diff fluid levels)

Also, just FYI, I'm driving a GSR not a MR like you, so it could possibly be the Diff warming up

My GSR had a similar whine. After changing all transmission/transaxle/differential fluid it all went away.

had the same whine, early in the warm up in 1st, 2nd gear. Change my rear diff fluid and it went away.

This thread reminded me that mine used to make the same noise last semester... But haven't heard it at all recently. I would attribute this to changing transaxle, center diff, and rear diff fluids (all at the same time so I can't tell you which one stopped the whine lol)

Yeah... I know it might sound like one of those "is the computer plugged in," a-hole, condescending kind of questions... but are you sure what you're hearing isn't just your turbo?

if it sounds anything like this probably the turbo. Happening to me right now and going to the dealer tomorrow to try and get a new turbo. Only 11k miles but I almost full bolt ons so should be interesting..

You're probably f'ed. Even if it's 100% not true, they can easily make the argument that you're causing the turbo to spool faster (beyond factory specifications), thus heat beyond what is safe for the turbo. Unlikely or not, this is all the manufacturer needs to say in order to deny your claim.

Just to add on to this, I noticed tonight while heading into work, that I only get the whine when my car is in gear. So like if I'm cruising at 40, push in clutch and pull it out of gear, I get no noises/whine. I only get a slight whine when I put it in gear and am at low speeds, I'm pretty sure it's just the transmission for me.

Still under factory warranty at 41.5k miles so if it takes a crap I'll just file it under warranty. I'm completely stock.
