Moving from the 9 to the 10....
I'm sure there are some posts about this topic, and I've gone through pages of the mega merge, but I just wanted to ask owners of the 10 what their thoughts are/were as they moved from the 8 or 9 to the 10.
I'm right smack in the middle of it, because I just picked up an '08 GSR that is in nice shape and has a few mods, makes 354 WHP on the stock turbo, so it's fun but not crazy. My IX MR is very similar, it has 357 at the wheels, also on the stock turbo.
Since I'm in the middle of selling the 9, I have both the 9 and the 10 in my garage. I drove both of them back to back today and it's hard to change - I love how the 9 feels, but the 10 is much more modern and feels nicer in many ways.
I guess kinda what I'm asking is for all of you 10 owners that moved up from and 8 or 9, what were your first thoughts / feelings, and have they changed much after having a 10 for a while? I need to get used to the 10; it's just a way different feel and I think I'm more comfortable in the seats of the 9, but maybe it's just because I haven't driven the 10 enough. Anyhow I'm kinda blabbing here but I was just curious how people feel about the 10 after driving it for a while, it's hard because I love the 9, but at the same time I'd like something a little newer, fewer miles, etc. They're both definitely really fun cars, that's for sure...

Moving from an evo 8 to an evo x is to me a big difference interior wise and space wise, I miss the closeness feeling of being inside an evo 8. The evo x is quite more spacious on the inside but I also feel like I am in a spaceship lol. You pretty much have to drive one everyday to get used to having a totally different car. It's not like borrowing one of your buddy's evo x and driving it every and then. Although having the evo x for a few, I would say the car is quite growing on me. I am starting to love it more and more each day. I do miss my evo 8 but it was time to let it go and get something with low miles and warranty. Almost kind of what you said but without the warranty part, I will tell you this make sure your stock clutch gets upgraded because they don't last very long. I don't drive like a jackass either i'm just saying the stock clutch sucks. As as far as mods this car does respond well to new mods with a tune. I see that your car is somewhat modified so that's good you got something with a little power. Well enjoy your car man and take care.

Good to hear that it grows on you, because I think that's what is starting to happen to me, but it's crazy just how different the two feel. The 4G63 gives that nice kick power-wise, where the 4B11 gives decent power, just more of a smooth delivery that doesn't feel as fast, although it's probably close. Anyhow, any other input is always appreciated, it's interesting to see people's take on a specific topic...
I bought my 2006 Evolution IX MR SE back in 2008 when I first entered college. The Evo X was just released, but I wanted the Rally car blocky look that the IX possessed. The evo IX was an Awesome car for a college student. Had the power, four doors, awd, sport suspension. Loved it.
Drove the car throughout college, and almost till I graduated. With each passing year, I started the see the imperfections in the IX. I grew tired of things such as the cheap plastic interior, loud-*** fart can turbo-back exhaust, and scraping going up hills. I was growing up. However, I still loved daily driving my japanese race car.
A few months before I graduated, I sold my IX and bought a brand new 2012 EVO X. The IX required a tune-up, and with all the parts and services that needed to be done, I decided just to "upgrade" to a newer Evo.
As everyone knows, the EVO X is a lot more luxurious and comfortable than the IX. With all this added luxurious goodies, the EVO X is far from being tamed. The X is smoother and handles beautifully through all corners. The IX was a lot more "raw" than the X.
The X was the perfect upgrade for me as I graduated college, and entered the business world. The car looks more professional with its dual exhaust, and flatter body.
The IX and the X are two completely different cars, but they are both great performance cars. Also, I do miss my IX, but I do not regret trading it in for the X.

Keep both
I miss my 8 sometimes and have considered selling to go back to the 9 but I am still here with my X.
I love it a lot and its frankly a better DD. If you don't DD your evo then its a harder choice as for dedicated track purposes the 8/9 can be much better depending on application, for daily though the X hands down wins.

My Buddy about 6 months ago bought a brand new 2012 EVO X GSR. Ive only driven 1 and only been in 1 since they came out brand new in 2008. To me, the EVO Xs are def nicer as a DD. More luxury features, more comfortable, nicer interior, etc. However, driving, the rawness, power nothing compares to the IX. My buddy let me drive his X and coming from my IX it is def different. You cant go wrong with either one. If you want a little better riding DD, I would stick with the X.
The AWD is better on the X, by far. I've driven on ice and snow in my 8 and X. The X also grips corners better - it's "smarter". However, the X does not have the raw power feel or quicker start of the 8. For a DD, I prefer the X, like the more spacious inside and better sound options.
I too am quite happy with my X. I bought it brand new and I'm around 8500 miles so I'll chime in. Had an IX before as well that I put 40,000 miles on.
The X may be a bit bigger but the weight is not as obvious. Power delivery is so much better that it is really not obvious.
To me, the increase in spool means that the weight gain wasn't that big of a deal. It has better low-end response and spool compared to my IX with tuned MIVEC.
The chassis/suspension also is much better. Over certain bumps that unsettle the car, my X does better than the IX did. It seems to ride on the outside tires when cornering before letting loose like the IX did. I'm much happier with the handling and even with the gas mileage. I can easily keep a 20mpg average without trying and when just driving steady in 5th I can easily maintain 28-30mpg average despite the 22mpg highway rating.
The color screen in the 12 is just amazing. So much more classy than the Red from 08. Seats are much better too.
My only real complaint is still the weight though. I'd love to shed another 100lbs. But I wouldn't go back to the slower spooling IX to lose the weight. I'm telling you the increased spool of the 10 makes all that weight pretty much disappear. I only feel it in the lower speed corners. It handles very well at high speeds and seems to rotate more predictably than the IX did. It rotates around the center axis of the car whereas my IX would rotate slightly forward of center causing some tail-happy action sometimes.
I'm quite happy and besides the weight I just wish it wasn't so new and expensive since I'm less likely to mess with it. Go test drive one of the newer ones with a good stock tune. The stock master cylinder isn't adjustable which I also disliked but I figured on the first clutch just I'll swap the IX master cylinder in so no big deal.
