Build Opinions

Ok so I have a 2012 Evo X. Got it in Aug of 2012. I got about 2600 miles on her so far. Middle of Nov I deployed back to Afghanistan. Not sure when I'm coming back but when I do I have big plans for my build. I love doing research into all the parts I'm looking to install but frankly it can be a little overwhelming at times with there being so many parts to look at and decide on as well as the fact I'm not a mechanic... I'm sure someone will chime in and tell me there are already threads about this but whatever. Some threads are older and I have yet to see anyone based on my research that is running the exact same parts I have and am looking to put in as a whole. So I'm gonna just lay it all out and see what you guys have to say about it. Am i missing anything? Things to consider? Real world experience? How much time and money will all this cost to install, ruffly? My ride is a DD but I'm looking to build a nice reliable(as much as possible) street beast. I'm thinking my magic # will be around 450 whp or a little over wouldn't hurt my feelings as long as its reliable and would like to keep the tq to around 380 as I've read going over that is not such a good thing. Will be running on 93 octane as I'm living in the FT Hood TX area. Thinking about making the drive to COBB Plano for the install. I've heard good things about them and I already have their access port so when they tune me I can have the map stored on the port. Here are the MOD's I did before I left....

KW variant 3's
EIbach Anti Sway Kit Front/Rear
Agency Power Rear Adjustable Control Arms
Injune CAI + UICP
AMS DP
ETS V2 Standard + ETS 200 Cell HFC
COBB Access Port + Stage 2

These for the build....

FIC Injectors 1100 cc
Walboro 255LPH Pump Kit
ETS LICP
ETS 4.0 Intercooler
FP Red
COBB 3" Turbo Silicone Inlet
COBB 3 Port Boost Control Solenoid
Boomba 75mm Throttle Body
Tial BOV
MAP REV 3 Intake Mani
Manley I Beams
Cosworth MX1's
Wiseco Pistons
ARP Head Studs
ACT Heavy Duty Pressure Plate / Performance Disc Clutch Kit
Magnus Master Cylinder Upgrade
Prosport Evo Series Wideband Air/Fuel + Boost guage
Rexpeed Dual Gauge Pillar Pod

your looking at a nice build labor bill
i couldnt tell you exactly since cobb is a big company and may charge more labor but my build labor was around $3k to pull my motor build it and put it all back together and tune it which was done by a good friend so im guess a little more for you since your going to cobb
there was also a bunch of other crap i had done at the time to but i think i got a great deal

Thx for the input bro. Added it all up and looking at about 10k for the parts. I'm sure the install is gonna be painful lol... I'm looking at trying to do some of the minor installs that wont really need a tune such as the FMIC, LICP, guages myself before I take it to the shop. Being in the place I am at the moment I'm kinda cut off from everything. Plus the time change. Prob gonna send Cobb an email and see what they have to say.

Don't spend all that deployment money brother!!! Good luck with everything though. Sounds like you're gonna have a nice little build going on!

I'm not military anymore. I do contract work with them now. This my 6th trip over here so I'm in a position to do some things I've been wanting to for a while. Still wanna good deal if i decide to do it. I haven't really decided if i even going to go through with the build or not. Its pretty extreme lol but that's just kinda how I am. Go big or go home... Just trying to see what all this is gonna cost before I do anything. I may just go with upgraded turbo and supporting MOD's and forget about the rest. Or a may just not even do it at all. Just trying to get the facts at this point. Besides its fun dreaming about it haha...

Most of those parts you can install yourself if you have a little know how and some tools, it may take a little longer to do it on your own but it will save a lot on labor costs and give you a sense of pride knowing you did it on your own. Good luck and get home safe brother

I'm a pretty mechanically inclined guy and everything I've put on so far I did myself. Putting that AMS DP on was no joke though Ill tell u that lol. I'm running the stage 2 Cobb AP right now and it matches the tune to the parts I have on. I was under the impression though that once I install some of these other parts I will need to get the car tuned right away to avoid damaging the engine? Is this correct? I'd love nothing more than to save a buck or 2 and do it myself and u r right about the feeling of accomplishment. That's half the fun of doing all this anyway...

Good build going on here.

I am also currently purchasing the parts for my build, very similar to this one minus opening up the motor, and was also curious about what parts can be put on and driven safely without a tune? I am doing full bolt-ons and FP red/ef3 upgrade and would like to save some $$ on labor

Yes I know very little about the install for internals.... Honestly I don't really like the idea of replacing internal parts on such a new engine such as mine. But, from what I've read, if u want power and durability then its just what u got to do or its just a matter of time before your calling one of your buddies up to come pick u up on the side of the road... As for the bolt on's and corresponding tune, that kinda seems like the bottle neck when doing big builds. I have the Cobb AP but that only gets u up to stage 2. I'm pretty sure it wont cover all the extra bolt on's I want to do to make it safe enough to drive until can get it to a shop... Unless Cobb could build me a special map I can throw on but I don't see that happening and even if they could that seems a little shady to me anyway. So who's got some advice????

I would get the AMS or MAP CMC upgrade instead of Magnus.

u could do the red with supporting mods and tell ur tuner not to do an aggressive tune and add the internals later. just no launching obviously. If u are sure ur going to do the internals I would wait until u did those to install the clutch that way u save on that labor since they are going to have everything out anyways.

Also I personally wouldn't install those parts and not run a tune. I've heard of people doing it just to get to their tuners but just cause it works for one person doesn't mean it will work for the next. I'd rather have a friend tow it or spend a few dollars to have a towing company pick it up for me. Not saying there is anything wrong with it but that's a huge investment to take a chance on
