My TC-SST died at 13k miles

2012 Evo X MR.

I started the car one day and it was making a weird noise, so I called Mitsubishi and they towed it to a dealership. After a week, they decided that the transmission needed to be replaced and are shipping in a new one from Japan (I have to wait another 2 weeks for it arrive, it's been 2 weeks with no evo already).

Thankfully I haven't modded the car and everything is covered by warranty, including a rental, but what the hell? Has anyone ever heard of anything this?

Fluke or lemon whatever you wanna call it my friend works at a ford dealership as a car mechanic an someone who bought a 2013 ford escape had the transmission go out at 300 miles He was the one who replaced it under warranty of course soooooo theres nothing you can really do the car industry is a HIT or MISS there will always be problems an its pretty clear as the cars get newer the more problems we start seeing (Recalls) Cant even get a battery right let alone the AIRBAG recalls we been seeing

18k+

At 18K plus myself and still going strong. No clicks, grinds, whines, bumps or any other noise you would not want to hear going down the road...or in any car at any time for that matter.

I'm at 17k on my 2011. Had some days where it seemed to take too long to after putting it into reverse before it started moving, but otherwise life is good. Probably about time to change my tranny fluid though.

The SST is cool but if I'd get an X I'd probably choose an MR and would not even considering modding it until the warranty was well over with due to the price of a new tranny.

I read recently they're down to $7.5k. I've been reading you can get it fully rebuilt at that Jack's transmission in colorado for $4.2k.

No personal experience, I'm still nervous and remaining stock...

The service manager told me it cost $12,000 for the part alone (has to be shipped from Japan). So that plus the labor to install.

I'm not going to touch my car when I finally get it back. Still waiting and driving around in a Chevy Cruze

Speaking with different tuners in town (Houston) and enthusiasts (take their input for what it is worth) the relative max WHP the SST can take for "extended periods" -read DD - seems to hover at an agreed upon 550-600WHP max before it needs work done as well.

Seems a little high to me and my future goals probably will never see that much unless I get a 2nd car to guarantee my work commute will continue if I spit a gear out the bottom of the X. haha

Glad to hear you have a warranty. All these SMG/DCT/SST/DSG transmissions are going to be expensive for folks who own them out of warranty
