1St Major Service Cost

Canadian dealership quoted me roughly $700 for my 2011 X - was wondering what prices, or experiences others have had?

The service manual online seems to be different my hard copy… too bad it’s in with the car in storage. It goes in Wednesday I post the details then.

$800 huh? Mmm I'm curious to know why they charge so much. I'll do my best to find out why.

Because its the dealer. You can do it yourself for a third of that easily and still have a good bit of fluids left over for the next service..

My apologies for the delay in posting the details; I’ve been busy this week.

Alright, so I picked it up from the dealership. It was the 24,000KM major servicing.
The actual sheet for the check list is a standard form used for 2008 and newer Evolution and Ralliart 24,000 KM major service.

List is as follows:

Reset service reminder, replace engine oil and filter-mobile 1, replace engine air filter, inspect all lights and bulbs, battery load/charging test, check coolant, check tire wear & rotate tires, top up fluids (includes transmission, power steering, brake, and windshield washer fluid), inspect winper blades, lubricate locks, hinges, & door seals, clean antenna mast, check exhaust system, check on condition of cabin air filter, service front/rear brakes (includes e-brake), check / adjust E-brake, brake percentages, change manual transaxle oil, check twin clutch sportronic shift transmission, change transfer oil, check reserve tank fluid level, inspect brake lines/hoses, inspect steering, suspension, & underbody, inspect drive shaft, axles, & CV Boots, check fuel system lines & connectors, perform engine wash, road test vehicle (that one had a big check mark hehe).

Ok, each one of those check had its own row and three columns with the headers Adjust, replace, inspect. If anyone wants to see I can post a pic/scan.

THE NUMBERS

The invoice I found surprising in respect to the cost-ratio of between parts and labour.

I’ll list a brake-down of exactly what each line says as it appears on the invoice.

24 24, 000 KM MAJOR SERVICE
7310 CC 396.44

1 402PM35 W/W FLUID 2.13
3 MZ320195 MANUAL TRANS FLUID 75W- 23.89
1 3775610 OIL, LSD (1 LITRE) 21.25
1 1500A086 ELEMENT,AIR CLEANER (NON 85.53
BGBRAKES BG BRAKE SERVICE WITH STOP SQUEAL

PARTS: 180.58 LABOR: 439.42 OTHER: 0.00 TOTAL: 620.0

Ok my head hurts and my brain is numb and these numbers are too big to add...

Comments on parts and labor?

Pretty cool how thorough they are. If you buy the car new and keep it stock as a daily driver, I wouldn't complain about having that service done at the dealer.

I would just DIY and save receipts of parts to prove the work was done for warranty purposes. Paying that much for simple stuff that you could np do yourself in the garage just doesn't make sense.

Couldn't agree more, also saving recipts/invoices are a great way to show someone you properly maintained it, say someone interested in buying it... I'd love a garage but I live in a condo in the inner city. I dream of garages though... ones with lifts... *drool*

Lol just realize all 3 of us are in Edmonton. Small world.

I work part time at namao Canadian Tire in the shop. I do all my work on my cars in the shop. Having a lift to use makes things so much easier!

If you guys need simple things like oil changes and tire swaps done pm me and i can help you guys out.

I don't know if carfax works the same way in Canada vs. the US, but when I sold my EVO, I noticed that every service I did at the dealership showed up in my carfax report.

It's a selling point down the road - I included my carfax report in my listing - and several buyers liked the fact that there was proof of the 30k service.

Only dealerships and state inspections appeared on my carfax - small shops did not (and of course self-maintenance like my own oil changes did not)

Just did all the fluids and spark plugs on my car. ~$190 in parts. took me little over 2 hours to do all the fluids, change the sparks and checked all the bulbs (no bulbs needed replacing) and the belt was like new so didn't replace. Pumping the fluid in with the hand pump took the longest. Not worth it to take it to a dealer as mentioned above.

Hey!
I am in Edmonton too! But reading this makes me think I am just going to do my service myself too. How long did the service take? Dealers charge some $120/hr so maybe that's why it's so expensive in labour alone.
