Issues on an improper tune?

I just bought the EVO X and looks to me like the UICP and LICP are aftermarket. The previous owner also had a short ram intake and aftermarket exhaust put on. What could be some common issues if it was improperly (or not tuned at all) tuned? Thanks for your time ! Forgive this nub.

Contact a tuner ASAP. That would be the absolute first thing I would do...

This all depends on what the intake is and how much of a exhaust he has. If it intake that uses the stock maf housing then you would be fine without a tune, along with only having a cat-back exhaust. It you are running a exhaust that has replaced the cat or down-pipe then you will need a tune. How is the car running as of late? is there alot of soot on your back bumper? have you noticed alot of backfires? Sluggish take offs? Your best bet is to take it to a reputable shop and have them look at it.

Can you datalog?

Do this when it's fully warmed up.
  1. idle
  2. normal in town driving (stop and go)
  3. Low boost (5psi)
  4. Update thread with logs
  5. If all good, then WOT and row through the gears while datalogging and update thread.

Even if it doesn't need a tune, it's good to see where your at. It will give you peace of mind.

Apparently the guy had an aftermarket downpipe with no cat but was able to use the proper O2 sensors w/o popping a engine service light. Nothing seems to be wrong while taking off or being sluggish at all. The only issue that I have is that it randomly shuts off if I am going to a stop and riding it in neutral for awhile. Lately I have just been riding the gear up until I almost stop so that it doesnt do this.

Unfortunately I have never datalogged. To be honest I am new at this and have been trying to learn by reading and watching vids =/. I think I have a buddy that can do this for me.

Is the BOV stock or is it a aftermarket? If it goes woosh really loude when you shift then that is a vent BOV and could be causing your stall or if it's the stock it's one of 2 things.

1 The spring might be going on it so it's opening while the car is in VAC
2 You have a boost leak some place and need to tighten all the clamps on your pipes or look for holes.

Do you hear a whistle sound when the car is on and not moveing or when pressing the gas in boost?

Take it to a shop no telling what the guy before did not all EVO drivers are good mechanics/tuners. Most do there own work on there cars too oil changes and every thing else so it's hard to trust a used EVO very scary thought.
Thats why most people buy them new.

Wish you the best.

Possibly running rich, this was happening to me not to long ago. Invest in some gauges soon and get a tuner to look at it.

Trust me I hear you on that one... Im pretty sure its a stock BOV but is quite loud when I shift. I dont hear the whistle sound when not moving. I am always scared to get these type of cars used but unfortunately I shoulda waited but w/e. Thanks for the help and tips.

I realized the car does chug quite a bit while sitting and warmed up. I am going to have a tuner check it out tommorow.

improper tune = blown engine or permanent engine damage, which can lead later to a same results = blown engine.

Hence , that is why we have so many engine blown ....

Idk about your temps.

Your tuned, stock boost is 21psi.
Redline is 7k, if you can hit 7800 ecu is flashed.
