Does everyone know the Nav unit no longer includes a 40GB hard drive? There are 2 slots for SD cards - one for map updates (sd card with map data is included) and another slot for adding your own storage for music. Also, the nav option currently costs $2375 (2013 option was $2295). Pricy for just navigation imo.

Did not know that, is the second SD card included just like the map data?

No sir, no memory for music included. You can still plug in via USB, stream via Bluetooth 2.0, and now you can buy your own SD card with any capacity you want to rip CD's to.

It does include a MapCare service that gives you a new SD card with updated maps a year after you buy your EVO, and again a year after that. Presumably, you could buy map updates yourself thereafter. They mail the map SD card to you automatically at the appropriate times, but you have to register for it.

If you install a large SD card can you rip CD's to that through the nav unit, or do you need to install the music on the SD card first from a computer? That's pretty lame though; that is a lot of money for just a nav unit, and the music server is my favorite feature of my nav unit!

I like the fact that you have options as to how much storage capacity you have. But the price of the unit should have been decreased not increased since the hard drive is no longer included.

Is the MapCare program a subscription service?

Good question. I'm guessing you can still rip cd's like before, but I havent read the manual or tried it yet. I'll get around to it this weekend or next.

That's how the car salesman at the dealership tried to spin it. But, honestly, who needs more than the 40GB on the '08-'13 unit? The MapCare is free for the first 2 years. No sub, but I would imagine you could buy further updates a la carte after that.

'08 had a 30GB...which is still plenty big enough! I actually have a 2008 unit with updated maps in my 2010, and I already have 54 CD's ripped to it.

I read in the MMCS manual that you cant put an SD card with a capacity greater than 32 GB in it. So, you actually cant have higher capacity than the 40 GB HD previously offered. Also, I didnt see anywhere in the manual where you would be able to rip cd's any more. I have never used the 08-13 MMCS, so I dont know exactly where the option would have been in the older units.

I currently do not have the 13 MMCS but of the units 40gb HDD some of that space is allotted to the Navigation maps so you do not have the full 40gb to store data. As I understand it the new 14 MMCS while SD based must have equivalent if not slightly more room available given larger capacity SD cards.

What would be nice is if two owners '11-13 and and '14 owner where in the same general area and would be willing to spend a few hours to see if the '14 unit will function 100% in the previous year vehicle.

Agreed. I'd like to know this as well.

Does anyone know if the new navi units include a better equalizer or any other sound options that aren't included in the non-navi touch screen units? That's my primary concern as I'm debating whether to upgrade to a navi system in my '14.
