The author's concern of Mitsubishi Motors not surviving its crisis it valid.
Yet if we look at Mitsubishi Motors' reviving strategy, which is starting from small econocars to improve the company's cash inflows, they seem rational. The same was employed by Nissan and Mazda when they had their hard times.
At the end of day, if Evo truly says good-bye to the enthusiasts, it may not be a bad thing. The $40k hard core sports car market in North America is saturated right now. With Evo leaving, Nissan, Mazda, Honda, or Hyundai can give their try, which actually gives us more choices.
I have only selfish concerns that if Evo's production ends or MMNA is no more, service and spare parts supply could be an issue for us.

For Evo's marketing strategy, MMNA can improve it by better emphasizing their high end trims (those with SS/SL/navi packages). Those can easily compete with luxury sports cars at the same price range. Potential buyers see it as a small sacrifice of luxury elements in exchange of huge improvements in driving experience.
The low end trims appeal to hard-core enthusiasts. Hard-core enthusiasts are well-informed and assertive. Marketing to them or not has little impact on its sales.
In Europe, many people watch WRC and other rallies. Evo has its huge fan base there. Here in North America, many don't watch any rally races. So instead of trying to make people "learn about rally races," they should rather dress the car differently and market it as a record-holding, refined luxury sports car. Many people who are under a budge but would like a luxury sports car will go for it.

USA never was a primary market for Evolution, They dont even bring the falg SUV here and so on so forth. So i dont really care if the Mitsubishi will pull out from the USA. I never had a warranty work done i never go to the dealership. If i do usually i got raped. So i dont really care
This may be the case for mitsu in the USA but here in my country its one of the car brands that sell more then the rest the only car brand that sells more then mitsu here is the toyotas. Also back in 2004 2005 when i bought my evo8 this rumors of mitsubishi closing in the USA where always in the news 10 years have past and they havent closed.

That article clearly wasn't written about anyone who knows about performance cars with a huge aftermarket following. Evo resale values destroy STI resale values. Probably because Evos can actually be made reliably fast for a small investment, and STIs can't.
That said, they're correct Mitsubishi isn't very healthy as a whole, and needs to figure something out quickly.

As far as I can tell - the parent company Mitsubishi, based in Japan obviously, is doing quite well. Mitsubishi Motors as a whole (worldwide) is also doing well. Mitsubishi Motors North America (MMNA), the Mitsubishi we know, is the subsidiary that's struggling (not profitable).

well, I hope it isn't true. I have been trying to open the foreign markets of mitsubishi and you know what? they aren't offering the evo x in some markets! in the ones that they are, it is only the evo x MR version. from this presumption, I think the GSR is already a rare one. get one while you still can. at least two. one to flog and one to keep!

It's just that every now and then I figure I should get only one GSR and keep it stock. I get used to high horsepower so fast. The first day of a 500hp is 500hp, the 2nd day it already feels like 400hp. By the end of the month, I feel like I'm driving a Camry. So now I drive a 300hp car, and if I close my eye while driving (don't do this in your car), I may as well convince myself that it is a 500hp car.
That was a very "trollishly" written article..... It's almost like walking around at an Evo meet and start asking obviously flame-war starting questions like.... "so the Subaru is more reliable eh?".
Almost seems like he was mad or something when he wrote it. Deep sarcasm in his words.

Daily news is a joke.
They are like USA Today, no one cares what they say.
NY times/Post only 2 real newspapers out of nyc.
Now, I call bs on reliability of STI.
Service is better than Mitsubishi, that's not saying much.
Mitsubishi as a brand needs to embrace what they do well.
Eclipse gsx turbo awd/3000gt with twins or a big fat single.
Then just make the interior nicer, & give it a decent tune from the factory.
Mitsubishi was strong back in 96 when I got my eclipse gsx, best car I ever owned.
With all the retro crap made by Detroit, make a new body eclipse or 3000gt, I remember when that car 1st came out.
It was high performance & a neck breaker, nothing even close other than Dodge stealth made by Mitsubishi.
Make a real SUV like Nissan patrol.
Make a base level / Luxury model of the Diamanté with a decent drivetrain.
Even Hyundai makes a 429hp v8 5.0 spec from the factory.
Now add the genesis 2.0 & have it built, kinda ironic it's the same platform.
No offense to subie, once my evo goes I'm out.

For me, they should improve their warranty support. They're marketing the evo as the best and fastest car on its class and they expected you to drive it like a granny. I mean, it's just hard to get warranty claims even if the drivers arent really abusing their cars.
So why bother with this headaches. That's why alot of people in north America for example, sticks with GM cars although they break often. It's because the warranty support for the customers are awesome. I mean, it's good for the customers, but it sucks to us as mechanics as they dont pay much.
