I was at the dealer today having them look at something and I asked about anyway to over ride the passanger seat airbag weight sensor. He said, No. So I figure if I'm getting the light anyways and the airbag isn't going to deploy, may as well remove it along with the two by the rear window. The drivers one is already out due to changing to an AM steering wheel.

My question is, do people buy airbags second hand or usually only from a dealer?

 

I have tried but never sold an airbag.

As to the light, etc, you can always find someone who can get into your ETACs (e.g., someone with a Lexia) and just shut the whole system off.

 

There is a market for used (undeployed obviously lol) airbags.

 

If you have an airbag light on due to replacing the front seats (as an example), would the other air bags deploy in an accident?

 

Yea there's always people looking for good air bags.

 

Not according to the dealer. At least not the passenger one. I'm not worried about the rear ones. I don't have a seat back there. Not really worried about any of them really. 99.99% of the time it's just me in the car.

 

There is a way to turn off the light. Using a scan tool.

 

I'm not sure this is correct. Maybe the MUT tool, but not your standard scan tool.

 

Standard tool with not do it. I I have all the lights on. Granted I don't care

 

As I said earlier, a Lexia can turn off the airbag system, because it can "talk to" ETACs. No plain scan-tool can do it.

 

I can't recall how expensive the Lexia tool is but wonder if we could just use this as well:

A Lexia is only about $100, but WOW! a MUT-III for $500 is a good deal.

 

So does anybody have this tool in Southern Cal? Has anybody actually seen it work with airbags?

Does it actually turn the airbag warning off or just reset it?

I should have been clearer. What people use a Lexia-3 for (besides disabling TPMS and DRLs) is to turn the entire system off. You can't turn off bits and pieces of the system. It's all or none.

 

Well I would be happy with that as long as they don't come back.
