Downpipe removal - bolt broke off

Need suggestions on how to proceed. Need to know how to extract the rest of the bolt that was left behind.

To those that have removed the downpipe, I broke the one bolt closest to the engine, it's the one bolt directly above 1 of the 2 bolts that are accessible through the passenger wheel well.

Really need ideas.

Sadly car is an 08 with only 20k miles....

Damn that's low miles.

Honestly, I take broken/snapped bolts to shops as it's relatively cheap, and the headache is just not worth it.

U will probably need to remove the exhaust manifold and the turbo. You need a special carbon etc material bits to drill it out. Best thing is to take it to a machine shop and have them drill it out. I experience the similar problem also. I broke the stud on the driver side o2 housing. I end up taking the exhaust manifold and the turbo off and had a machine shop drill out. They even put in a new stud also. Best of luck.

I suggest a good local shop. They will have the right tools and experience. It can be quite a pain. It's a hassle to get the car there. Hopefully you can just put the other bolts back in and drive it over...

your alot better off bringing it to a local shop, other than that the only other real option you have would be a tap and die set but i feel like that would be a pain in the *** to get to with one

Either pick up a bolt extractor kit from SnapOn or the likes and give it a shot. Looks like you have enough room from the pic you posted but you will have to be the judge of that.

OR, take it to a shop.

I have removed the 10 nuts on the exhaust manifold and the 2 nuts and 2 bolts that hold the hotside to the exhaust manifold but the turbo still won't move? Any ideas? Took the uicp and 1 bolt on a bracket that holds the turbo but it is still not moving.

Hoping not to go there. I was told there is another bolt under the hotside that holds the turbo after which I should be able to move the turbo and pull the manifold up.

There is a bracket with a bolt that the exhaust manifold sits on. You can only access the bolt underneath.

Exhaust manifold or the turbo manifold? The exhaust manifold is loose but just won't go over the 2 studs sticking up from the turbo hotside.

Same thing happened to me few weeks ago when I did my downpipe.

I removed the hot side from the turbo while still attached (pretty easy) and sent the hot side out to a machine shop to have drilled out and re-taped.

Good luck.
