Back on Mitsu Family and need help

Hey Guys!

I have been a member for years and used to do ECUFlash when it all started. Either way I stepped away from the stage to relax since before I knew it had grown outside of what I was able to handle (too much work, which is not bad but not relaxing). Just this weekend looking for a car for my wife I came across a beautiful 2008 EVO X MR. The price was just to good to let it pass and both my wife and I walked away with new cars. Adios to my good friend 2010 Mazdaspeed 3...and I just spent a fortune in really really good tires! But I got an EVO now! One of my dream cars!

This EVO X MR has been upgraded and because I have been out of the scene for so long I need some help figuring out what certain mods have been done that only people with experience would be able to tell. So far I know it has:

Now the car has some vacuum lines removed and some additional electronics that I do not know what they are even for a ex tuner like me... I will post pictures tomorrow regarding everything I need help identifying. Thanks in advance for any help I get once I post the pictures! SO SO Damn HAPPY!!! GOT MY EVO!!!! FINALLY!!! !!!!!!! I can almost cry!

    Here are the pictures:

These pictures are the ones I would like to start getting some help regarding the setup on this car. Based on this pictures I assume the ECU is heavily modded so O2 sensors are gone and others... I would like to know why the vacuum lines are missing and any information you guys can deduce from reviewing these images. There is also inside the car a small box like the size of the boxes for gps, that sits at the far back below the a/c controls. Again thank you in advance for any and all information you guys can give!!

1st pic - Vac lines are for an aftermarket boost controller
2nd pic - BOV vac line rerouted (looks like its missing, but its not) because of the ETS intake. Since the BOV is moved to the front of the car, the line gets (can be) rerouted. You can always google a stock engine pic for reference.

About the box inside the car.... Brand? Display? Maybe snap a pic?

    Anyway everything looks good. Enjoy

Only suggestion I have is depending on miles, check your timing chain. Before 2011 they were known to stretch which can cause big issues. May want to see about replacing it if it hasn't been done already imo. (Good peace of mind, even though it's more money out of your pocket)

It looks like I don't have enough posts to make a thread about WTB OpenPort 2.0. The car definitely has a funky ecu tune and I need to check it out. I haven't tried using my old 1.3U cable to download the rom, not sure if it works.

Not sure about the box. Hopefully someone else can chime in.

And the full throttle/stalling issue... Does the car have a tune? Reason I ask. With all those mods, you need one. When I purchased my X, the previous owner had flashed it back to stock. Car came with exhaust, test pipe, boost pills removed and VTA BOV. I had the same issue. Car was overboosting/stalling bad at full throttle. I purchased a cobb ap, flashed it, car runs perfect now. So that could be the issue your having.

I am glad I am not the only one that thinks its a bad tune or flash. The car definitely has a flash since there are no service engine lights and there is heavy sensor changes. I wonder once I am able to download the rom and check the tables, if there is anyone here I can have review them also.

I wonder what the cobb ap changed on yours.

I'd skip all that, find a good tuner shop in your area, and take it there. Get the car there, have them give it a once over and tell you what is all on the car, then dyno tune it for the mods and make any hardware changes they deem necessary. You really want to go easy on the car until then. Who knows what the guy before did and his tune could be harming the car.

    My .02 cents

I used to have a good amount of connections but I never kept in touch with anyone. I have a coworker that is in a pretty good club. I know they have done some crazy work specially on his corvette. One of them he believes is a Evo guru so I will take both your and his advise. I'll take the car to get looked through.

Lot of good shops in your area, I'd try and find a verified good quality shop that understands these cars rather than a word of mouth friend of a friend you have no way to verify.

This thread had some promising options it looks like. Good luck! Post up your dyno once you get it tuned and running properly with the parts it has.

Also just remembered something and wonder if the box on the picture is an O2 sensor emulator? Don't know if they are needed for Ecu tuning on the EVO X.
