2014 GSR vs mR
I think I said what I had to. From here you choose what ever model you like for your own build.
I was just explained my experience and point of view. But of course everyone use what they think it is a best for them my posts only for information who needs it. That is all.
GSR - All the way
GSR.. gotta get the manual.. Unless you will be racing it professionally in which case you will want the MR (lightning shifts). With the GSR you can still smoke 90% of the competition =)
I have an MR,I like manuals too,if there was a 6th gear option I'm sure I would have purchased a GSR.It took sometime to get used to the DCT but I wouldn't really trade this transmission for a manual now that I am used to it.In traffic there is no comparison the DCT is just alot better. It is Still an EVO the car is what we are all fans of.
1. I have a 14GSR and switched for a month with my friend MR (Built)... i like my GSR more. Though traffic with a manual sucks, and a automatic is more convenient. GSR has so much more potential (no offense to any MR owners) MR is fun to drive but I miss stick shift, I guess it is because I drove it most of my life haha.
2. GSR: Manual MR: Automatic, GSR: Potential for power MR: Limited , GSR: Clutch tends to lock you out MR: Just put that in Drive and enjoy, Pros and Cons to both; at the end of the day it is entirely up to you.
3. One thing I regret most for my Evo X is the BASE. I should've done ALL my research. The SSS Package is so worth it.. Fast Keys, Projector Headlight, Keyhole in Trunk. Man it would've been nice to have. Leather Seat + Sunroof is another option, it is quite expensive but if that is your style GO FOR IT. BUT I recommend the SSS Package MUST HAVE.
Key Note: Adding projectors are more expensive then to just getting the SSS package. Adding the fast key as well, I never heard of anyone installing it but its easier to just buy it with your car.

been a hard core manual tranny guy since 1976. having said that, I agree the mr tranny is a freaking work of art. It is a high maitanace mistress thats for sure, already did a major service on it. It defininately shifts better at high rpm's. Love this car!

I went to the dealer intending to buy a GSR, but left with an MR. It was more expensive but I'm happier with the choice. It felt nicer overall especially with the packages. I miss having a manual but not enough to regret my decision.. if that helps at all!
Coming from 08 MR to 14 GSR.
They are both fun car to drive. I think MR is probably faster for me and sst can make you drive like a super star. I really enjoyed downshift in that car, lol, I think I will never shift as good as a computer.
That said, for my personal needs, I think GSR is a better pick this time round.
MR's maintain cost tends to be higher, and I believe it was lot higher. My MR 30k service done at dealer was around 850 usd. I believe transmission service was the most expensive one. And I personally really dont wanna touch sst because I was afraid that I might **** things up.
With GSR, I can do a lot of stuff on my own and 5sp trans has a solid history behind. And DIY service seems to be a lot easier. Even if my transmission takes a ****, I can still fix it for a cheaper price than SST. And How many times have you seen 5sp failure?
I am planning to keep the car for very long time and probably hit track occasionally in the future, I feel like GSR is the better choice because of the cost of owning and cheaper to fix if something goes wrong in the future.
to summarize this, the main reason I didn't pick MR was because of the OTD cost and ownership cost in long run.

Just a recommendation, it is an opinion so don't jump on me for it.
If I was trading a car for an Evo, I would look for anything between (if used) 2011-2014. No offense to older Evo X owners. I think others can chime in on this as well. Recalls can be a pain in your *** but for the Evo it is worth it. Avoid the 15.. IF YOU ARE in the states. No recaro.. so sad guys..
14's still have recaros but they stopped for the 15's in the states. YES SEATS ARE IMPORTANT TO ME lol (sarcasm)
