Roof swap
Roof swap
This may sound crazy but I love my sunroof. The damaged Evo I just bought does not have one. I have access to another Evo (wrecked) that has one. Has anyone ever swapped out the entire roof section on an Evo? On the surface it looks like drilling out the welds in the drip channel and then welding the roof panel with the sunroof back on. I have an uncle who owns a body shop so he has the equipment and the expertise. Of course he thinks I am crazy. Like I said, I live in California and love my sunroof. So, any ideas? Parts aside is this a huge mistake or doable?
In the VIII & IX, changing the roof skin is not uncommon. Usually it is someone getting rid of the sunroof though for a carbon fiber skin or the heavier steel for the MR aluminum.
Not sure on the X.

You pretty much have everything covered. You have access to both cars and a shop to do it. It's just the skin.
I actually contemplated on doing this. Unfortunately the shop that took the sunroof off the donor car mangled the roof, otherwise I was going to put it on my GSR.
If you do it, please post any feedback.

If you want to add a moon roof, replace the whole roof.
If you want a moon roof and are considering replacing the entire roof, make sure the person doing the work has some talent and welding skills.
That is no easy job, and when and if my car rolls one day, that would be a KEY factor in my safety.
