Evo X Trunk question

Hopefully this isn't too much of a n00b question but I currently have a 2011 Evo X GSR with the SSS package. I was wondering if there is any aerodynamic advantage to having the wing on the trunk or not?

If there isn't really much of an aerodynamic benefit to having it, I wanted to look into potentially getting an MR trunk for the vehicle as I'd prefer to have a less aggressive look. Thanks.

All of which fails to explain why Mitsu didn't think the MR needed the wing.

It's obvious why the VIII needed the spoiler to break up the lift over the big rear deck.
But, as people have noticed, the trunk on the X is notably smaller. The cabin is further aft, the rear deck is higher and much smaller, and the rear window has significantly more slope to it.

So the major effect -- the air coming off the roof splitting to form a low pressure area over the rear deck -- is vastly reduced on the X, compared to the VIII.

Now I haven't thrashed my MR around the track, yet.
But I've pushed it, con gusto, enough to know that (unlike the VIII), I haven't found the MR's limits, and I'm not going to, on the street.

So far, I haven't noticed any issues without the big bench blocking my rear view.

By contrast, the big bleacher on the VIII seemed to draw cops.
I nearly got tail-ended, in the VIII, by a cop who was so fixated on my wing that he didn't see the car running the stop sign to cut me off.
(And the EVOs stop a lot shorter than the trash they inflict on cops.)

It's not that big of a spoiler. Don't over-exaggerate.

Obviously taking off the wing is not going to make the car super unstable or something, this is a $40,000 street car we're talking about. The point is that the wing DOES provide some function, even if it's not to the extent of the CT9A. I would venture to say Mitsu sells the MR without a wing to make the car more appealing to the 'mature' shoppers who will be considering the X MR.
