Considering an Evo X

Currently I own a 2003 Eclipse Spyder, but want to use that primarily as a summer/nice weather car for days when I can put the top down.

I need a second car to use in the snow/rain and to commute to college now. So my thinking is why not spend the money on a car I actually want.

Option 1:

2008 Evo X GSR
Color: Blue
Mileage: 77,883
Price: $21,995

Option 2:
http://www.cars.com/vehicledetail/de...587/overview/#
2010 Evo X GSR
Color: Blue
Mileage: 145,664
Price: $16,688

Option 3:

2010 Evo X GSR
Color: Black
Mileage: 62,613
Price: $23,298

Also, at the mileages these Evo's are at what are some things to look for and upcoming maintenance that will need to get done?

When I bought my Eclipse I know I needed to change the timing belt and check for rust in the strut towers.

option 1 or 3 is your best bet of the cars listed. But if you keep looking im sure you can find better deals. I got a 2012 sss with 47500 miles for 23k

I really wanted a Wicked White Evo, but just cannot find them within 100 miles of me for any decent price. I'm still searching, but I want to make the purchase within the next month or two.

Damn, though I assume they're probably just as reliable as any other Mitsubishi that's properly maintained up to 250k and beyond

Yes, probably. But with how easy it is to find an X(compared to an 8/9) always go lowest mileage possible, man.

Anything pre-2011 needs a timing chain replacement because they are prone to stretching, just keep that in mind. Is also something you can use to negotiate with. Good luck in your search they are fantastic cars.

Wasn't that a recall or no? I feel like if it stretches and they just put the same one in it will just stretch again over and over.

I need to devote a lot more hours to browsing all of the info about the X on here.

Hmmm everything form TrueCar, edmunds, cars.com, and KBB said these were good prices.

I am trying to spend no more than $25k total including taxes and fees, and also trying to get as low mileage as possible. In White preferably or I could live with Blue.

In my main car forum somebody mentioned they wouldn't want to buy any of these because of the likelihood they were beat up by kids "becuz racecar". Just wondering what you guys had to say about that? I do love the Evo, but I don't need to throw more money at one within the next year because the suspension is shot etc.

I've searched on all the cars sites within 100 miles of my location because that's as far as I'm willing to go to do a test drive etc. I also don't want to buy somebody else s project, god knows what could be wrong with their setup and such. All of these factors combined seem to severley limit my choice of Evo's. There's several others with good pricing and miles but have been completely modified by the Owner because they "gave up and are done".

Yup. The unfortunate thing about buying a used performance oriented vehicle, such as the evo, is that it's probably been thrashed lol. However, there are a few, and I mean few, used evos out there that have been properly driven. The worst thing about a used evo is that the transfer case can go out pretty easily if the car has been launched a couple times. I wouldn't buy an evo with 100k+ miles on it. No way Jose. I watched a guy with a X at a car meet recently launch his evo multiple times and burned his clutch in the process. I just thought about how bad I feel for the next owner.

I bought my evo new because of that reason. I now know what has been done to my car, who has worked on it, how it was driven, etc.

Thanks for the valuable input!

That's the same thing I was thinking when I wanted a brand new Evo, but I cannot finance $37k to get the Evo I'd want brand new sadly I might have to buy another car and just leave the Evo on hold and hopefully some things work out and I can get a still fairly new one next year
