Seems like a terrible deal. I walked out on them today. My white Evo x is in pristine shape.

All carmax does is prey on people in bad situations, and give them something almost insulting but if your mother is dying you might take it.

Just try and sell it privately and never go to Carmax ever again unless you are trying to buy something. Even then - **** them for the way they try and poach anyone on the other end of the deal.

Yeah, even BMW is offering me at least 30k to trade in on a new M4.

Why are you so anxious to get rid of a car you just got into if you aren't having financial issues? (doesn't seem like you are talking about trading for an M4)

Just curious...

stay far away from car max.

They offered me 9k on my 11 4 door Civic SI with 17k miles and in pristine condition.

Sold the car for 17k private party. That's almost double.

The same car on their site at different locations was listing between 16k and 20k.

I was offered the exact same from carmax. 28k for a '14 gsr with 18k miles. SSSL perfect condition. BMW offered me 26 for trade-in on an in-stock new m3. I passed

They are in it to make money, not pay fair market value and break even.

Never a good idea to sell to a dealership.

The problem with Carmax is, they are in it to make too much money.

They steal on trades, then sell their cars for above fair market value.

I get it, they are just worse than they should be. (Former Carmax salesman from several years back here)

How else would you stay in business?

Carmax doesn't offer service/ repair do they? So if buying and buying and selling is their only source of income it makes sense. BMW can offer more cause you would be buying a much more expensive car and servicing it there as well, which brings in more income.
Just sell it privately. It's the same deal with every sale....trade it in and get less or sell it yourself and get more. If you can stand having random guys come to your house and want to drive your car.

That's not the point.

Obviously you are free to charge/sell your items for whatever price you'd like.

Carmax is one of those companies who's whole mantra is "we are a fair and honest, no haggle price dealer".

The point is their prices are not usually even competitive with other dealers, and almost all dealers offer more on their trades than Carmax does.

It astounds me Carmax is even able to stay in business, but hey, there is a sucker born every minute.
