Lightbulb First Evo Build Ideas!

Hello everyone, I just picked up a 2013 Evo GSR (Cosmic Blue) 1 week and 1 day ago (7/24/15). My main goal is to get the car to 400HP to the wheels. So my question is, what is the best way to get there, and what is the cheapest way to get there. My thoughts are, in order of buying parts (ETS intake, ETS upper and lower charge pipe, boost controller, fuel injectors, exhaust, ETS intercooler.) So what do you think about that, if you don't like it what would you do differently?

Great car looks awesome. I think you should read more about various modifications, their benefits, and results and then start finding out what you want to add. Also I would suggest driving your car for a while first, and finding out what you want to change first before throwing parts at it. Your part list is a bit fragmented and not touching on a lot of parts that you should get in the right order. For instance, a downpipe is really only needed if you get a bigger turbo, along with a cold air intake. A drop in filter like a Cosworth filter is fine until then.

Research a bit, take your time, and enjoy! The more you know the better able you will be to ask questions of the community.

Welcome!

Cool thanks, I appreciate the advice. But yes I am just learning the car first before I do anything.

If you want to add something for just a tiny bump no tune needed, just get a cosworth drop in panel filter. I just dyno tuned my car with some mods, but had a baseline dyno done with just the air filter and no tune. It put down 240 when it should have put down around 220-225 stock. I could definitely feel a difference when driving with just the filter added.

Enjoy and good luck!

ETS or AMS hard pipes, intake and intercooler, GrimmSpeed 3 port, a test pipe, 1000cc injectors, GSC S1 or S2 cams, AEM wideband, a boost gauge and a tune.

You asked "cheapest" so here it goes.

Option A- if E85 is available and easy to get, get your bolt-ons (exhaust, uicp, intake, 3 port) and get a tune. You can make 400 or SUPER close.

Option 2- skip all the bolt ons and get a stock frame turbo like mhi-18k or FP red and you are making 400+ and your car will sound like a stock evo and be a total sleeper and you would have spent under 3k total including tune.

Combine option A and B to have option C which is a bolt-on, MHI-18K, E85 450whp street monster

Great advise from everyone! The only thing I want to add is that I want to use 93 not E85, E85 is not that easy for me to get. But thanks for the words

If an FP Red or other bolt-on turbo is used, would you need to upgrade injectors/fuel pump to get 400whp?

Yes! I'm making around 345whp on the stock turbo with bolt-on's on 91 using stock injectors and they're maxed out. IDC was around 93% iirc.

How much torque would the MHI-18k put out? Would you need to build the engine for that kind of power input from the new turbo?

It's all in the tune. Your tuner will likely limit your torque to around 350wtq. It's safe for the stock block. If you want a lot of torque, sure you can build the block. The stock internals are fine for any power the 18K will make.
