Changing oil pump question

I believe my oil relief valve is stuck shut (150psi+ oil pressure at idle when cold, oil filter exploded thanks to the car gods for my oil pressure alarms)

Car is driveable if I let it warm up for 15 minutes (idles @ 10psi, 3k = 70psi, haven't gone over 3k for obvious reasons) Florida weather, 5w30 dino oil since it spewed the sythetic stuff all over the parking lot, will replace with proper oil after pump replacement.

I've ordered a new oil pump... my plan is to drop the oil pan, separate the pump from the drive gear the chain turns, take the pump out, install new pump, put oil pan on (debating on new pan because in my experience the odds of damaging the evo x pan during removal are high) then drive happily forever after.

Question: Can I install a new oil pump by only removing the oil pan? In other words no front cover removal, no other things to be removed? I think I can but I'd rather discover I can't on a forum than after I've dropped the pan.

Thanks ahead of time.
