I'm currently stranded in Idaho Springs CO.

My transmission started jerking into gears downshifting from Eisenhower tunnel. The "transmission Service Required" light came on and I've only been able to drive in 3rd gear. The tranny ignores me when I try to shift up or down.

I'm at 40k miles.

Any ideas?

I would stop driving it immediately and tow it somewhere before you do any more unintentional damage.

Any modifications to the car? Did you change the fluid in it at 30k?

 

Changing the fluid at 30k miles wont help. Im at 140k miles and full bolt ons since 55k miles and only changed the fluid once at 55k miles. Still shifting fine!
Its how you drive it that matters!!

I had the car towed to a Mitsubishi dealer. I'm still under the 50k power train warranty so it should be covered. The tranny was making some noise as I came to a stop. Reverse wasn't working but after waiting 3 hours for a tow, it started working again.

The car is completely stock, luckily.

Yes, I had the 30k maintenance done around 30k miles.

 

Oh awesome you should be golden then. Let us know what the result is but I suspect a new transmission in your near future.

 

I hope so. I got my 30k maintenance done late but I had the SST oil changed earlier. Hopefully I can find that record. Do you think they will fight me on the warranty?

I will hear Monday what the tech finds.

 

Man if you have an unmodified EVO and did nothing odd then you're fine.
