I've heard mixed reviews on "the place in the springs" for SST service. I'm actually considering driving my car down to Houston to have the clutches replaced. 62K miles, changed fluid and filter at 30k. I've had two instiences that the car would skip gears. The most recent was two days ago, so I'm afraid that the clutch fork is failing. Time to take it to the experts at Kozmic for me.

Hope to see you around Denver! Look for me at the local autocross or time attack after I get fixed up.

I hope i won't need transmission service anytime soon as i have just undergone my 30K service and the first owner drove it like he was going to keep it forever. (good for me)
I am relatively new to an Evolution and i wonder if there are any meetups around Denver so i can get some insight and inspiration before i do anything to this car?
As for local autocross and/or time attack i would love to check it out as a spectator for now.

Honestly I prefer driving in S Sport manual all the time because I can now feel the clutches slipping more in Sport or Normal. Also the shifts are smooth and instantaneous which I prefer.

There is no 'overkill' for driving in S Sport, unless you put it in S Sport Automatic, then yes, that is overkill as you tool up to the stoplight with Molly McMinivan and your car is revving to 5k constantly down to 1st gear.

I know you have to replace clutch packs after a while, as it is a wear item, but I would rather reduce that interval as much as possible, so S Sport manual it is. (and it feels the best!)

P.S. I know the feels of losing power at altitude with a turbo car. Took my 05 WRX up to Colorado for a couple weeks and everything was one gear lower to get going than down here at sea level lol.
It is estimated that we loose up to 25% of power for an AWD vehicle. Thankfully Evo has a great potential to compensate. As for driving with SST i did notice the difference between manual and automatic shifting. The manual shifts faster and smoother. The only problem i currently have is that i am still on stock exhaust and i can't hear and feel the motor so i need to occasionally look at the tachometer to know when it is time to shift. I didn't have that issue with my turbo back subaru. I am not sure if that is true but i think that my car which is the fully loaded touring model may have additional noise protection layers that make it almost too comfortably quiet inside the cabin. I am currently researching on the possible exhaust options-any suggestions?

I think the Sakura street exhaust sounds great, is the main one I am eyeballing. I did get a chance to ride in a car with an Akropovik and it was almost as quiet as stock so don't bother drooling over that hyper expensive piece lol. Another one I liked a lot was the quad oval tipp Cobb. I am looking, when I get an exhaust, for something that isn't too over the top, but a nice sound and a bit more aggressive than stock.

Car is quiet stock, I have the MR fully loaded so it has noise dampening in it as well. I'm used to it by now so rarely look at the tac. As that poster above however showed, perhaps just Sport auto is fine 24/7 if he's at 150k with the stock clutchpacks lol.

my MR has less than 15,000 on it and it has done crazy shift things on me too... The SST is just a fussy SOB some times. I called the both the local dealers around here and they told me if its not coding then keep driving.... see what they say when my WRNTY is up LOL. anyways, Kozmic is the place for sure!!!

Looks like we have similar taste if it comes to exhaust. I have decided to go with Cobb Oval Tips. I like that it looks close to stock, reminds you that you are driving road legal rally car but it doesn't take away the pleasure of the premium sound Now what is left to do is convincing my wife that this $1000 purchase is absolutely necessary for well being of our family

I have the cobb single ovals - ended up painting them black to match my car. (heat paint basically)
The exhaust sounds great. Perfect level of sounds and deepness.

Good to know, and by heat paint you mean ceramic coating?

For some reason when I ordered them thru my tuner I told him gold tips. I didn't like the look when I saw them so I got some heat resistant spray paint at home depot, (black) and sprayed the cobb tips. Same thing you can use on a BBQ basically. Flat black- looks fine.
