17 miles per gallon, extreme wear and tear already if not new, need money for gas, tires only last 8,000 miles (stock), rattling noises, mod addiction, need money for gas, recalls that need to be done, need gas money.

Always expect the worst, keep a couple thousand in the bank in case something happens. These cars are very reliable if maintained, but it doesn't hurt to play safe.

If you start modding, you might as well stack up on ramen because its more addicting than you think. Buy a $230 intake and 5 minutes after the install you're already online looking for more parts.

You'll become best friends with your gas station attendant and be invited to the oil companies quarterly meetings for skyrocketing their sales.

Your local hospital will be overwhelmed with patients coming in with broken necks.

In all seriousness I'm a full-time student with a coop in an IT department and owning/maintaining the car isn't as bad as it may seem. Plan your budget accordingly and make some room in case something goes wrong.

I get 22 mpg because I don't drive it all that hard most of the time. There have been no untoward expenses during my first 9,000 miles in 5 months since buying it new. Basically, it can be a normal car if you want it to.

Car is great. Do your OEM recommended maintenance, always. Mine has 58K miles, bought new in 2010, and still no issues..and that's even with all bolt ons, different turbo...and running it on the autobahn for the past 15 months.

Good luck.

When it comes to modding the evo x, you want to do it in batches. Buy a group of parts and install them all in one go and then get a tune for them. Since basically every mod on the evo will need a proper tune to go with it, it's beneficial to do multiple parts at once so you aren't paying for a tune multiple times.

As an example, I recently did intake, upper IC pipe, boost controller, test pipe, cat-back exhaust. And now I'm getting a tune for all of those.

Thanks man , So basically once I start to mod . I might as well mod in bulk because my evo would need to be tuned?

Thats how I am treating it, I am holding off on everything but the catback until I get everything together for a full build and tune. Taking care of suspension and some exterior mods in the meantime. Welcome!

This ^^. Will save you a lot in the long run. Plus IMO you'll actually feel the difference of everything, instead of little unnoticeable gains here and there. if you do it in bulk with your tune it will be like getting a new car.
