Mods before Tune

Hello all,

I have 2014 Evo X MR and just wanted to find out which mods will yield me the most gain.
For now, I have only have drop in filter and a cat back exhaust.
If you were to install 1 or 2 more mods before the tune, which mods will yield the most gain after tune?
Thank you all in advance!

This can all be found with searching pretty easy, but the BEST two mods for money are a testpipe and electronic boost controller.

My (very well respected) tuner seems to advise:
EBC then FMIC + UICP then Test Pipe/HFC (Use a catalytic please. Nobody wants to be behind your stanky A$$)

Any mods beyond that will provide little to no gain on a stock turbo setup.

Well, FMIC and UICP both provide little to no gain. An FMIC does allow one to hold boost more consistently, and safer. It's a good mod to have regardless.

If the OP wants gains, it's a boost controller and test pipe with a tune.

FMIC is worth 15-20 HP once you have the boost turned up on an otherwise stock car so if that's "little-to-no gain", whatever.

I hate these threads.

Sure I suppose that's true on an otherwise stock car adding a boost controller and FMIC.

I guess I am speaking from my personal experience adding a FMIC as my last bolt-on, where I gained about 2 whp. That was at 1 psi less boost from my previous tune though.

Settle down

ETS Intake - $275
ETS test pipe - $225
3 port EBC- $100
Tune - $300

These are the best mods for under $1000 bucks. Also based on new products, used will be cheaper

Add a UICP if you want some response. Cat back won't yield a ton, will just make it sound better. Downpipe is pointless unless it's a 02 dump cause it'll get rid of the back pressure that is there with a recirculated housing. FMIC is good if you live in a very hot state (like me in AZ), it'll add some substantial power when used with other parts

I was reading a few threads and the general consensus was a boost controller wasn't too important? When I asked RRE they said the same thing.

Anyways, I currently have an ETS V2 regular. So far I have intake, o2 dump downpipe and non catted test pipe on my to buy list (all ETS). Not sure if I should spring for the full FMIC or just the UICP, it's starting to get a bit expensive. SoCal does get pretty hot nowadays, probably looking at 90+ weather until November if the last couple of years are any indication.

I'm just going to go for the most reliable tune, hopefully pushing mid 300's. Anything else you guys would recommend?

EBCS is necessary, you can skip the FMIC and the UICP is nice but not necessary. You also don't really need a downpipe until you get a bigger turbo.

I would just get a drop in filter, test pipe, ebcs, and tune. All the rest is minor gains over that until you get a bigger turbo.

A boost controller is a very effective piece in the hands of a good tuner, it allows better control and response over your boost levels which means they can squeeze out more power consistently.

As for recommended parts, I'm running ETS Intake, UICP, Test-Pipe, Cat-back, and a Grimmspeed EBCS. On 93 octane I dyno'd at 324whp and 342wtq.

This hits the nail on the head.

Your better off spending your cash on an AFR gauge, UICP, reliable BOV, EBC, Fuel pump and fuel pump relay for the power level you are looking at.

Thank you all for your replies!
If I install the ETS intake on top of the catback exhaust already installed on the car, will I really need a tune for that?
If tune is not needed, is it okay to drive hard (hitting redline once in awhile)?
