2008 evo x gsr fuel pump relay

ok so i just made a account here and i have a few questions. i bought the car from a older man who never touched anything its bone stock. it has 50k miles and non of the 5 relays that your suppose to swap out have ever been changed. my fuel pump relay is 100% bad when i shake it it sounds like a salt shaker. i am going to swap all 5 but at the same time he could have been running with a bad relay for awhile and im worried my motor has been running lean and has had knocks because of this. im worried to the point where i just want to sell it. any knocks in the motor is bad and messes with how long it will last. ive already had a motor blow on me in my rsx type s and i dont feel like doing that swap again. for all i know it could of went bad at 10k miles and hes been driving like this for 40k miles and everytime hes close to WOT its running lean which is terrible. let me know what you guys think. thanks alot.

Well you already bought the car so what are your options really? It's not like you can return it..
Buy the relay package and hope for the best is about all you can do right?
Might as well change the plugs and fluids while you're at it. I would.

Here is some interesting info on the relay. Hopefully someone else with more knowledge will chime in on this. I like you would be concerned but then again im not sure how much damage would have been done to the motor if the car wasnt being abused. If the guy was taking it into boost alot then the motor might not have as much life left in it as you would like.

yea ive read almost every forum including that one on the topic it just really scares me because i have 50k and no warranty. the relay could have went bad at 10k and been running lean for a long time. im getting the cobb access port and im gonna do pulls through all gears and read my a/f ration and see if i get any knocks. i guess thats the best way to tell.

Good luck keep us posted im curious to see what your results are. Have you looked at getting a taxtric cable tho with evo scan. Its gonna be cheaper if you have a laptop.

Have you been riding the car hard? If not the old dude may not have hammered it that much.

I have only put 100 miles on the car and the previous owner deff didnt beat it up too much but if your going like 70% throttle or more its supppse to switch over to the higher end of the fuel pump which it obviously cant because of the relay so it runs lean. Im just nervous there my motor wont last long because of running lean for so long

Any weird noises? Curious... Has the clutch been replaced?

Honestly, you should be fine. Nothing to lose sleep over IMO. It's not like these motors are made of glass. I doubt the previous owner was beating the sh*t out of the car. I'm sure you would've noticed something right away while test driving/looking it over.

You should be fine. I'd be worried if it had a bigger turbo, cams, motor work, etc etc... Then yes, for example a bad tune + bad relay = $ in repairs.

Yea i get that. Im just hoping he hasnt been running lean since like 10k miles cuz i heard stories of these relays going out at very low miles. 40k miles of running lean at wot will deff mess with the longevity of the car. I ordered the fuses and im getting accessport tomorrow so im gonna do pulls 1-5th and see how many knocks i get and check my af ratios
