How important is the carpet under the hood? Can we remove it?

How important is the black carpet looking thing under the hood? Can we remove it without causing damage to the hood's paint?

Is there a how-to for removing that piece? I wanna remove it and possibly replace it because mine is filthy. But honestly i would prefer it gone. So would it be a issue with heat on the under side of the hood? Has anyone else done this?

it's more to stop heat from getting the hood too hot. I'd just leave it imo it's there for a reason.

I think it's theoretically supposed to smother engine fire? But I'm not 100% on that. I've had it off on plenty of my cars, never had an issue. Never caught one on fire though.

Not very. Although in the long run it might make your hood peel, fade

I'd leave it alone or replace it. I'm sure it helps the paint not reach such high temps.
