This has probably been asked and I apologize, but I’m not sure what to call these things to search for them.

My car doesn’t have a spoiler but I have seen cars that do have these black brackets on both side but I’m just curious as what is their name and purpose.

I have another trunk lid same color as mine that I bought that had holes for the oem spoiler but didn’t come with these brackets and I installed it along with a replica spoiler and as far as I know I had no issues but I’m just curious what these do.

 

It should be a type of "bump stop" for the trunk. Not so much the "brakect", but the little round piece of rubber makes contact with the trunk hinges.

 

If I'm looking at the service manual correctly, that is the "Trunk lid stay damper bracket", most likely to keep it in place left to right, take the stress off of the hinges and latch.

Looks like the Mitsubishi part number is 5935A004
