Evo X Whp Stock Turbo

Hey guys, i drive a bmw m3, was going to switch to a 135i or 335i been then fell in love with the evo x. I was wondering if 400whp or near it would be possibly with bolt ons. I just want to be able to keep up with my friends jb4 135i, My plans was to order a GSR white, with the aero package on it. Thanks for all the advice been looking at dyno charts and have been searching and would love some forum members insight thanks!

I will be finding out pretty soon. Got all the bolt ons plus some cams. I think I should be close to 400 but I'm pretty sure a new turbo will be necessary to pass it.

Don't think you will be able to hit quite 400whp on the stock turbo unless the dyno was ridiculously high reading or had inflated numbers. Realistically with full bolt on parts, cams, and turbo manifold; you could probably get 360whp on stock turbo.

You'd have to upgrade to a BBX-Lite, FP Green, or bigger turbo if you want 400whp or more.

dont forget RWD and AWD cars on dyno are different...

You wont hit or break 400whp/wtq without turbo. With stage 2 and cams you will hit 360ish...

Stage 1+2 = 330ish
Stage 1+2+3 = 400ish with ease

If you want to break 400 on an MR you are looking at 15 grand at least with labor.
If you wanna break 400 on a GSR you are looking at 10/12 grand at least with labor.

Check my sig for the current mods and the future plan to give you an idea.

depends if you consider e85 and cams "bolt-on" upgrades..

definitely not on acn 91 octane though

$15,000!? Dangit!

... actually, that's probably higher HP than I would want at the moment anyway, but opinions change I guess.

The current mods I have right now cost me 6 grandish with labor. And my stage 3 (in the sig) is going to cost me 9.4k WITH labor (already got price quotes) and that will get me above 400 which is all I want.

Just getting stage 2 will be sufficient enough if you ask me. I gained about 100 whp/wtq over bone stock and it is a huge difference. I am thinking I wont be more power hungry for another 6-7 months which is enough time for me as I already started buying stage 3 pieces.

Modding isnt cheap :P But it sure as hell is worth it.

+1. If you use E-85, you will get a hell of alot closer to your goal, but I still don't see a normal dyno reading 400whp with the stock turbo..

You can save alot of money if you do the work yourself. A shop wanted to charge me $500-$600 just to install my AMS Downpipe...i said **** that. It cost me a coffee and some DQ that i bought for my friend that gave me a hand.

I've heard the O2 housing/DP install is a royal P.I.T.A on the X. The rest of the stuff, installing the mod is more fun then buying it and more satisfying when feeling/seeing it.

But I'll totally admit, if you're trying to do it in a carport or apartment parkinglot, just paying for the install is way better than putting up with neighbors and notices.

Snakes709 Oct 5, 2011 08:52 PM

The dp was easy as hell. Took me 5mins to take the downpipe out. Just need a second person to hold 2 10" extentions in place why you loosen the spring bolts off. The 02 housing was my buddies task. I had to pick my gf up while he was taking the 02 housing off...i was gone for 1 hour and when i came back he had it off (snapped one bolt though). The whole install would have taken 4 hours if we seen the bracket thats under the manifold that holds the housing to the block. When we put the AMS DP on it was pushing against the bracket so it wasnt sitting on the turbo housing flush. We called it a night and the next day we took the manifold and the turbo right out of the car and installed everything as a whole.
