Just replaced my fuel pump relay! Don't forget to change yours

It's now a hot summer and my Evo X has been experiencing rough idles, and every now and then when I accelerate, for a brief moment the RPM stuck around 4,000 as if hitting a limiter. I pulled the fuel pump relay and it failed the salt shaker test. Therefore I ordered and installed a relay set from MAP, and now the car running smoothly again!

The fuel pump relay on Evo X's goes through a cycle almost every time you press the gas pedal, so it wears out quickly. People usually advise replacing them every 3~6 months to prevent running lean. More information can be found in an old thread where I had a same problem.

For what it's worth, my 2013 Evo X is still running the stock fuel pump relay at ~50k miles with no issues. I know some of the older Evo X's had faulty relays, but Mitsu did put revised relays in after a few years.

Can't hurt to replace it though, especially if your car isn't running right.

I replaced mine at around 150000 miles
They never rattled after I replaced them too
If anyone needs some good used ones mine are available.

Just replaced all mine and the plugs last week. I don't know if they had ever been done on my 2012 and I was sitting at 63k.

I had the green relays and a black one still for the fuel pump. They all passed the "salt shaker test".

is this needed on the 2015 models or was the issue fixed by then

Plan on replacing them on a reasonable interval. There is no difference between the 15 and 14/13 I don't believe.

2020 now just sharing my experience on my 2010 MR w/ 154K kms on ODO.
Had it from day one and 10 years later I experienced the hesitation with throttle and RPM fluctuation while AC is on.

Mine already had installed Blue 8627A049 relay and don't recall they had been swapped. I might as well order 3 new ones and they are all new orange Panasonic MIJ relays.
Swapped in today and so far so good.

I'm having intermittent fuel "starvation" issues when WOT in my '08 GSR at 109k miles so I checked out my fuse box and I think I've got a mish-mash of relays so maybe y'all can help me out...

https://scontent-iad3-1.xx.fbcdn.net...16&oe=5F8C2441

I think I need to replace/update the 3 green (8627A011) relays [in A22, A25, and A28] AND the MFI (MR301978) in the upper right corner (in the picture, or A34)? It seems, sometime, I got the upgraded OMRON 122409 relay in A27... Mitsu must have done it during a recall or something; need to check my records / receipts... Should I upgrade the Omron when I replace the other relays?

So, do I need to order the the Kozmic set (https://www.kozmicmotorsports.com/pr...pump-relay-kit) then? Who else has sells the kits / parts?

From what I gathered the facts from members, they either ordered from Kozmic or AMS. I would say you could give the part # with your local Mitsubishi dealership part guy and see what he says.
I think it's around $13 each.

Kozmic or MAP are the way to go.

Mitsu had a recall for the relays. Should get yours replaced if you haven't. I had mine done, no issues at all.

My experience has supported these views. In the past, I used to have to change the fuel pump relay (FPR) every 2 years or shorter (rough idle et cetera). Now, the tall orange relays (p/n 8627A049; from MAPerformance) has endured 4 years and over 40k miles (64k km). I just did a salt shaker test and the FPR (marked M by the factory diagram) made NO noise, as if it were new. I'm very happy with this tall orange relay.https://www.camaro5.com/forums/images/smilies/wub.gif

I still change the orange relay once a year. I just write the date when it went in, with a sharpie, that way if I forget it’s always there :)
