Actually I mean, when you get into a accident, the airbag will go off and blow your gauges into your face.

Actually looking at the force vectors and the install angle of the guages. when you crash they will probably hit your right shoulder . Thats not to bad for some cool guages.

I project an angled and upward molded design being mounted in the cubby hole under the climate control unit. But that means looking down to see your gauges Other than that, I see DEFI HUD displays being very popular, along with top dash-mounted gauges. Give it time and there will be solutions.

Not here to argue, dispute or debate....but that is dumb. Any accident is bad enough minor or major. Adding a variable that can further hurt you FTL!!!!

that timer in the picture above only actually appeared in the concept along with suede inserts in the seat and dash and headliner. The actual production car will not have that timer and also be lacking any suede in the concept. It kinda sux but what can you do that would be a perfect place for a boost gauge. Make it outta fiberglass and mount it just like that. That how i am going to do mine.

Make a panel for the lower cubby, mount the hvac control box behind it, relocate the knobs to the panel, use the stock hvac knob position holes for gauges. Someone on here did it, looks perfect. I think it was VividRacing, one of the shops that first got it.

Have any of you guys actually looked at the side airbags???

Pop the pillar off and take a look. The actual airbag isn't on the plastic pillar (it's on the metal a-pillar part) and starts at the top of the pillar and travels down only about 6-7".

Right, but the pillar cover is one piece. The top breaking from the force of the airbag explosion will shoot any gauges you have off the pillar and right toward you.

IMO, the best bet would be a vent gauge like pictured above. Another thing a vendor ought to get on is a single din radio replacement that goes toward the bottom and a slot for two or three gauge holes in the center between the vents. That would be trick.

I looked at this when I put my gauge in, and I felt the pillars were a no no from what I saw.

the air bag will push the plastic cover off but unless your mounting the gauges high they should keep the cover from going to far. When i get a chance I will post some pic of mounting them low and far away from the airbag. if you are really worried about the gauges then place a set screw at the bottom of the A pillar to keep the cover from becoming completly detached. thus holding your gauges in place on the plastic.
