How to disable the factory 2-step

There's been some information going around stating that the factory ECU will not let you disable the factory 5-5.5K "clutch in" rev limiter and that it takes a reading from the VSS as a backup.

We haven't done extensive testing on this, but we've done repeated launches and pulls and some driving (short trips) with the two-step disabled and no ill effects.

You need to unplug the *UPPER* clutch switch to disable it (PITA to reach up in there).

Granted, I don't drive the car much at the moment as we're constantly doing fabrication work on it, but it's worked fine for us thus far. Just don't expect your stock clutch to last long. ;-)

If anyone finds any ill-effects from doing this, please feel free to chip in.

This was the same feature that the previous Evos had. I would just advise to wait for the tuning software to arrive, so that way we could just "raise" the limiter like we did with EcuFlash.

Sorry, but I'm not tearing apart the dash for one pic.

You have to reach up in there and feel for it.

The upper switch is of course at the upper limit of the clutch travel. Look at the lower one for reference as to how high up on the clutch lever it is located when the clutch is fully released.

I don't have the EVO X CAPS right here, but here's a diagram of the IX's setup which is quite similar.

The arrow is pointing to the switch that needs to be unplugged. A lot of people were trying to disable it by unplugging the lower switch which doesn't work.

you can tune your stock ecu's 2step control up to the redline. then it would almost be like not having one.

One other *IMPORTANT* note to this.

If you disable this switch, your cruise should still work with the exception that pushing in the clutch WILL NOT disable it. You would have to tap the brake pedal instead. If you push in the clutch with the cruise set, the motor will flat-rev.

If you're worried about this, you could always put in a manual switch on one of the wires to "enable" or "disable" the switch as opposed to unplugging it.

If it were and VIII or IX and there was software out there already, this mod wouldn't be worth mentioning....

So I unplugged it, and I am still unable to launch.... Any thoughts?

Same thing worked on the IX, I'm surprised they didn't try to make it more difficult. probably does this purposely in order to void your warranty as soon as possible. If they were smart they would make most of their vehicle easy to mod so that they would never have to fix anything. I would save them millions!

I did unhook the top one, and yes it is a PITA to get to it and still unable to launch
