DIY heatshield for Cobb SF Intake - updated pics 3/05

After I installed a Cobb SF intake I had a few instances of stumble at idle while running the ac. I had a few aluminum clipboards lying around so figured Id try and whip up a budget heat shield. It seems to work great so far, and hardly any air from the ac fan is getting directly to the filter now.
Sure, it looks like it was made out of a couple of clipboards, but this was mostly just to see if I could make something simple that works.

I think Im going to bite the bullet and get a sheet of aluminum and rethink/redo the portion attached to the body to something more along the lines of the inlet portion of the stock intake.

If anyone wants I could post some pics and measurements when I redo it...
I was thinking about some black wrinkle paint when all is said and done. Any ideas?

A little less cheesy with the wrinkle black IMO.

good job. i used the front half of the oem intake box and the snorkle as a heat shield for a while and it worked great for me. i just wasn't able to use the adapter support bracket that came with the sf intake. Agency Power has an intake heat shield that reuses the oem snorkle. might want to look into that.

She's got a 3" narrowed beam, spindles and 4 wheel disc. Theres about 75% of the parts for a 2161cc in boxes in the garage that I will probly sell now that the Evos the priority.

I was running the front half as well when I only had a cone filter on. I wish I could use at least the first part of the stock unit, but Ive already noticed a big drop in IAT since installing the clipboard mod so I may just stick with it.

Cool. This was one reason I went with a works drop-in. I may have to think about doing this mod when I start tuning!

I tell ya what...

If you really want it then bring me a 2x3 sheet of aluminum and Ill make you one Bring me a sheet of 3x5 or 3x6 and Ill make a better version with me getting the prototype and you getting the pretty painted one.

Ive already spent some time making new templates. The newer design is similar to the previous version but the forward section is made of 2 pieces and should direct more cold air in front of the filter instead of mostly just blocking the hot air from the radiator and ac fan.

Let me know

Very good use of a clipboard! Nice install as well. I may have to do that as well.
