That you got a tick in your first month, tough crowd those cops. Or you did something that said "look at me", not driving like the herd does.
Oh yea, I wasn't speeding, just cruising on the highway, i usually keep my car(or my other car) under 3K RPM on the highway (so like under 65mph in the GSR). I don't like going fast on the highway, its so obvious out in the open like that. And especially with a bunch of people on the road, its not safe either.

It was funny. I saw lights behind(i'm in the left lane), i was like oh he needs to get by, so i move over to the right and he's behind me again, so i was like oh its me, and pulled off to the side. It didn't help i can't see his face with the spoiler in my rearview. He was pretty straight forward, so it was my lack of front plate, and gave me a ticket when he came back.

My other reason for putting the plate on, is i tend not to like to draw attention (though the giant spoiler doesn't help). Thats the reason I choose black, thats why i don't speed much on the highway, and so on.

I was a bit apprehensive on drilling holes on my bumper too. It was 3 big 13mm holes to mount the stock license plate garnish on the X. After I did it, I didn't see what the big deal was about not doing it before.

I just drilled to holes to mount the plate directly on the bumper
O I think it looks better with the plate on...but I'm just old and grumpy

Where I live, your lucky to see 1 out of every 10 corvettes with front plates. Same story with Audi R8s mebbe less, and probably only half the Bimmer M's run them. Going more upscale than that for racing street cars and NO ONE runs front plates. Sort of glad for that mentality here. Keeps cops from really having cause for a lil ol Evo getting a tick.

Would this bracket setup work mounted into the bottom lip of the bumper. I have mine zip tied to the black mesh now, and I actually like the location since I don't think it blocks much air at all. I also think right under the cross bar would be a good spot and that way it can be centered over the crash bar and not block any air. Maybe I should get a CF crash bar cover, mount the bracket to that, then tape it on. That way, if I ever change I have no holes anywhere. How deep do the screws go in?

Probably best to email the guy about that, but i don't think the screws are longer than 1/2 inch if i remember correctly. The mount is just two adjustable L-brackets(height and angle) that screws underneath, you could move them into whatever position might work best for you

I wonder if there is a way to use the stock mounting bracket and screw it in from the bottom and tape it on the bumper so you don't have to drill visible holes.. It's probably too heavy though.

I drove my WRX without a front plate for years and never was pulled over. The first time I got pulled over for it the cops gave me a warning. They also gave me a warning for my exhaust. Probably pulled me over thinking I was a punk kid.

Now I roll with the front plate on. Not worth getting pulled over for something that I could've avoided.

haha, yeah i got one just recently too. debating about just mounting it for good because, like you, i'm tired of wasting my precious time going to the chp office, pay the damn fine, and take it off again.

the car does look so much cleaner without the plate though

I actually think the OEM mount looks cool and is unique to the Evo.

easy for you to say, unless the cop feels like being an overly self-righteous douchebag and say crap like "zip ties aren't secure, i can't sign" or "you got tint too, remove that first" etc etc etc, which i can say with certainty 128% of the cops in CA are.

Pretty funny! My only tick for the plate was a **** who wanted to really give me grief about the tinting. His "Tintometer" showed he was all full of crap, but he tagged me for a ticket for the plate. In MO, "fix it" tickets still get $, and also have a lawyer required, so paying the fine for a non-moving, no points, no perm offense, is the same as a "fix it" ticket plea which is noise violations, exact same cost as the plate. $85.

Haha. Im in So Cal. and I have tinted windows, I just left them rolled down for the inspection. The cop did give me a hard time about the zip ties saying "these arent permanant" I just told him that I looked up the voilation code before I came and it didnt mention anything about having to be permanant. My bluff worked and he signed me off. haha.
