I did a little digging but was interested if anyone had done some rust proofing underneath (i.e., carriage), how they did it and what they used. Thinking about doing it but not sure where to start.

This is what I use. I actually did this a few weeks ago. Take the entire under panel off. Use an old towel and get it somewhat damp then just wash all the gunk off everywhere you can see. When I was under there I noticed that black center brace thing was rusted all over. The rest of the car was fine but that one brace was bad. So I took a wire brush and sand paper and got a lot of rust off.
Then spray everything with the degreaser. Just watch the alternator. Let it soak for 10min or whatever time it says. You can spray from the top of the engine bay also. It gets things clean and shinny. Then take some old rags and clean it all up. Then I use that rost off stuff and spray all the bolts and joints I see. Clean it up with a rag again then I use an air dryer and from a slight distance just hit the undercarriage to get excess water out of the nooks and crannies.
That underbody seal stuff needs the car to be completely dry so after I hit it with the air gun I walk away for an hour or two then go under with a dry rag and make sure its all good. I just used the underbody seal on that black brace. Its seems like a ***** to take off if need be so I dont want to accidentally cover drain plugs or anything I might need to unscrew in the future. Plus the undertray does a good job keeping salt off the engine and trans so I just cleaned it and left it be.
Thats my basic rust prevention that I just started this year and will be doing each fall. I see too many rusted up cars around here and I dont want mine to fall victim.

i coated my sub frames rear and front with por-15 and the used asphalt undercoating in the wheel wells. I hear the lubes work well to repel salt also that are similar to the Wurth Rost Off Extra.
