Cruise control how to install or can it be installed?
 

Lancer X 2008 1.5 petrol engine manual gearbox

In the Evo, the Cruise Control is a function of the ECU and the Electronic Throttle Body. There's a wiring harness (which should already be in your car), a clock spring (should also be existing same-part), clutch and brake switches, and steering wheel buttons as far as hardware goes. Beyond that, it's up the the ECU. You'll need someone (dealer?) with an MUT-II/III tool to activate the function in the ECU.

Cruise control can be activated for those Inspira / Lancer without cruise control. However there are few parts that require along the process and activation in the ECM (Engine Control Module) is required for this. The cruise is purely control by ECM only. No activation or control in anyway from ETACS.

Parts
The parts require are as follow,
1. The panel switch 8602A008.

This switch function is mainly to control the cruise. It will tell the ECM what the driver wanted to do.

** Note: There are parts for china market that the socket and the bracket for this switch are different. Use the button "COAST SET" as a reference. China market switch are label as "CST SET".

2. Brake switch 8614A018.

This brake switch is different from the one without cruise support. This brake switch has 4 pin instead of 2. The other two pin works as an indicator for the ECM. The two pin is always connected, but when the brakes are applied, the switch break the connected circuit hence telling the ECM that the driver is braking. This allows the ECM to disconnect the cruise.

3. Clutch Switch MB435457 (applicable for manual transmission model only)

The clutch switch act as a circuit breaker to the ECM. Its Open circuit until the clutch is being press. This allows the ECM to cut of the fuel and disconnect the cruise when the clutch is press. This is to prevent the rpm climbing by itself.

Installation

1. Installation of the Panel switch.

Remove the screw of the unused cover from behind the steering wheel, using a Philip head screwdriver. The connector should be attached to the cover, replace the cover with the Panel switch and plug in the connector.

2. Installation of the brake switch / Clutch switch

Remove the lower cover first.

Remove the 2 screws , highlighted in red circle. Then start to pull from the top (highlighter red line). There are clips inside here. Just pull the panel towards yourself.

Un-clip the OBD2 connector both side. There clips that attach the lower cover part carpet. You can just use a flat head screw driver and remove it.

Locate the switch above the brake pedal, remove the wire connected to it. Then turn the switch, you should be able to feel it loose up and can be pull out. Replace with the new 4 pin brake switch. slide in and lock into location. Adjust it to your liking, push deeper before lock, you need to press more brake to release the cruise. (Use the brake light as a guide on how deep you want the cruise to deactivate)

Locate a screw hole on top of the clutch pedal. You should be able to see an unused socket there. Screw in the clutch switch. Check the tip of the switch, make sure it is pressed inwards. Screw the secondary screw to secure the switch location. Then plug in the socket.

Next, put everything back together.

Activation
Activation is require on the ECM only. Set Cruise Control --> Present.

Testing
1. Ignition OFF
2. Press and hold "COAST SET"
3. Turn ignition to ON, within half a second release "COAST SET" and press "ACC RES"

The cruise light should blink constantly.
Constant blink = Cruise is working.

Usage
1. ON/OFF to turn on and off the cruise. The light on the meter will show when it is ON.
2. When you reach your desire speed, press COAST SET once. This will set the cruising speed.
3. Press "ACC RES" to increase speed, or "COAST SET" to reduce speed.

In case you press brake / clutch the cruise disengage, you can press "ACC RES" and it will resume back on the previous speed you set.

"CANCEL" works like the brake or clutch. Whenever the "CANCEL" is pressed, the Cruise is disconnected.

Note : Cruise will only work above 40km/h.

I was told by the last owner that he tried to get the cruise control as well but the dealer said that this model does not support it.
Do you know anything about that?

The thing is that ive seen same models (year, power, shape) being sold second hand and they had the cruise control, from the pictures I saw 1 had the leaver on the bottom left like you would find on a toyota.
I really dont know what to think.
Or are you saying that all the cars have it hardwired in the system and that you just need the right stuff for it and activate it from the ECU?

Ardo, we don't get the 1.5 spec version here so it's hard to say what your market gets. Check for the wiring for the clutch and brake switches. If the connectors are there, then you should be able to take the airbag out and check the clock spring for a blue power steering controls connector. If you have all the wiring, it's probably worth finding someone with an MUT to try activating the ECU. If they do, then you can add the switchgear and should be good to go.

No I did not, it doesnt support it.....I just sold it and bought a younger year lancer with the cc already on it.
However my dealer said I could have a aftermarket one installed by them.

Yes, sadly the 1.5 ECU does not support it so it is not an option for it. I also was in contact with a friendly mechanic
who said that the aftermarket still had risks because it was mechanically doing what the ECU should be doing
and it might cause some electrical and ECU problems later on......It might cause....

I dont know anything above that. I just belived him and got a better version, 1.8CVT is noice, the automatic gearbox is
completely fine since u can still swap gears although im not using the flappy paddles.

You need an ECU from 1.6 ASX, it will work, but you need MUT 3 to reprogram it to your car, or get the full immobilizer set with the ECU
